  • RAJ - I'm not sure which I prefer, the polaroids or the Mamiya shots! Great atmosphere.

Ketan - some of those have some real heavy PNW vibes. what are you shooting on to get the double exposures?

This is a diverse bunch from the last 12 months. Shot on iPhone 7, iPhone 10, Samsung S9, GoPro Max, unless I’ve forgotten something.

All shot with my cheap LG phone at various places in Los Angeles. Soon I'll upgrade to a real cam like the Canon EOS before I take a road trip to Utah, Wyoming and Idaho early next year.l

i hit up sequoia, sf, weed, portland, mt vernon, and some others ??? before getting to nelson.  but none of those pics are from there!  i mean the outdoor stuff is from la, green bay, prairies and northern ontario.  but yeah, vibez.  that's on my very basic ricoh xr-1.

I just attended a slideshow presentation hosted by Roger Steffens of Family Acid at a nearby venue as a promotion for his new book. Wild stuff. The man certainly likes his double exposures, weed and reggae. Check it out.

You could easily make your own, if that floats your boat! The Jamaican food stands and fresh donuts from the scout hut are where it's at.

It's a vivid place, if you like taking pics it's an orgy of light.  This is the place from above, local dude has that drone stuff down.

I was in Reno and even that isn't as colorful compared to what you shot. Reminds me of my video game days: Carnival Night Zone from Sonic The Hedgehog 3.

They are nice drone shots.  I've never tried one, I think the best use-case for where I usually am is following me on the bike in the forest - is that something that can be done automatically to any degree?  Without it costing me 000s?

Think back to when you bought your first turntables. You managed to put a record on but it took a while to learn how to scratch and beat match. It’s the same with drones: You need to invest time to learn how to fly and film. This will be your biggest investment. But you do need some money... You don’t have to spend thousands, but close to a grand will get you a DJI Mini 3 Pro which supposedly is the best consumer drone out there ATM. I don’t have that one and can’t speak from experience but it packs a lot of the features of previous models into a sub-250g device which is good as the low weight means you have to observe less flying restrictions. There are cheaper ones available but you get what you pay for and below a certain level it’s not fit for your purpose.

The DJI Mini 3 Pro has automatic tracking and follow modes. You are talking about cycling and flying “in the forest” which means many potential obstacles. I don’t know how good it would perform under those conditions. I would suggest you research on YT what people have to say about tracking abilities AND obstacle avoidance.
I personally find shots following an object a bit boring but filming from the front (while autonomously flying backwards) has been challenging for older DJI drones: they tend to swirve to the side and then continue following from behind.
Alternatively, you might want to consider a pole or helmet mounted 360 camera which could give viewers the illusion of a camera following you.
(Quality if video is bad because of Facebook's compression. Original video is HD or even 4K, can't remember...)
