Spain's fig season is now. The fresh ones taste much better than dried figs imo. Fucking wasps.
It's not as bad at that graphic suggests. Eggs are only laid in the male plant. The fruit we eat is the female and the worst thing about that is that there may have been a female wasp who got stuck in there early in the fruit's development and is thoroughly integrated into the fruit you eat (i.e., not crunchy wasp bits - those are seeds).
And you eat bugs all the time in other fruit you're eating.
i had to look up that shit about wasps and figs btw. it's weird to think about for sure. i'm still going to eat the fig!
that said, if you`re ever in Mexico City, you HAVE to make time for breakfast at El Cardenal. it's the best brekkie in the world as far as i'm concerned. but you're meant to try the escamoles, which are ant larva fried in butter.
