    Goddamn do I hate 2016...

  • Low End is my favorite hip hop joint ever. Growing up in Queens, I was on to them since Can I Kick It? came out. Felt like I grew up on their music, along with Beasties and Public Enemy. First MCA, now Phife, 2016 gets rougher...

45 is way too young. RIP to a legendary MC.

    Arguably the greatest "sidekick" MC.

When I was a semi nervous cat amongst these dudes during the El Segundo sessions, he approached me......"Hi I'm Malik, what's up."

    Rest in Peace.

Shame on the people who shitted on him as an MC.  He had such a distinctive voice and flow.  Not to mention tons of memorable ,  fun lyrics.  RIP!

  • Damn. Sad news indeed.

Even at 5 feet, Phife was giant in my musical mind garden. Bigger than Bowie.

    Rest in Peace.

Never felt as comfortable listening to hip-hop as I did when listening to Tribe. Sounds weird, yeah, but the playful and inclusive spirit shined through so much in music that was exciting, respectful for the past and optimistic about the future. Phife seemed like his actual personality shone through in his rhymes, and I felt like I knew him. It's even more sad that in arguably some of his most famous lines, on "Buggin' Out" - "drink a lot soda so they call me Dr. Pepper" - hints toward what was a very public struggle with diabetes and its effects, highlighted in the Rappaport doc. Hope he finds satisfies his sweet tooth in the afterlife, RIP.

I couldn't have said it better myself.  Here are some of my favorite lines:

"Microphone check 1, 2, what is this?
The 5-foot assassin with the roughneck business
I float like gravity, never had a cavity
I got more rhymes than the Winans got family..."

    Nuff said!  RIP Phife Diggy!!!

    Peace,

    Big Stacks from Kakalak

    RIP

A really unique voice in hip hop.

It's been bittersweet hearing so much Tribe today.

I wonder if the more mainstream (Tribe) fans will discover/rediscover/appreciate the solo joint...

    Fav lyric is:
I like my beats hard like two day old shit
Steady eating booty MCs like cheese grits
My man Al B. Sure, he's in effect mode
Used to have a crush on Dawn from En Vogue
It's not like honey dip would wanna get with me
But just in case I own more condoms than T.L.C

Me and my friends always thought of low end theory as the pinnacle of hip hop. It got better and better until low end theory with those drums and dopeness. Then it sorta did whatever.

There is a word for you and your friends.  And that word is:

    "CORRECT."

I've been actively avoiding this video. Mistake. This is great.

What was the origin of his name? Did he ever breakitdown? Is it from FIVEFoot Assassin?
