Nat King Cole is pretty much my definition of Lush.

Interesting to see different people's definitions....

Anyway, Marvin Gaye - After the Dance

    Air - Playground Love

as a non native english speaker I'm struggling with the meaning of "lush". I looked it up in the dictionary and all the translations didn't seem to be appropriate. So I guess it has some kind of double meaning, which doesn't translate to my mother tongue. Just out of the context of the stuff that has been postet yet, my guess is it means easy listening with predominant strings. Am I far out with this meaning?

    Yeah, in short, a vibe.

It's the old "Talking about music is like dancing about oranges." argument.

Or like Pornography - hard to define precisely but you know it when you see it.

To me, use of "Lush" to describe music should imply multiple layers of sound (a gap in which strings fit well), deep harmonies, chordally or vocally, and a chilled pace otherwise you miss the beauty.  Like a musical slow exhale on some exotic beach.

FLW, yes, strings are often described as Lush.
You could say billowy, flowing, floating, softness.
    And what people said above.

Just fell in love with this record.
Totally lush. No strings, except bass.
