Whats the story again with the cover of this one? They recalled it because you can see the guy on the far lefts finger and it looks like a dick. I remember hearing bout this a long ass time ago.

LOL! Maybe it's cause it looks like everyones right hand is up the next guys ass.
you guys are showing some serious good taste and it forces me to drop my own.
Moonglows "Don't Say Goodbye" (my father makes me sing this for him all the time) Drifters "Your Promise To Be Mine" (post Clyde McPhatter, pre Ben E King, this is some fantastic ish) Flamingos "Golden Teardrops" (some saaaadness) Dominoes "The Bells" (with Clyde McPhatter screaming to his dead girl as she's being carried away...to be honest it's totally funny, done with tongue planted firmly in cheek, but still comes off creepy with a hell of a vocal.)
..and really, any other Moonglows tracks, with the aforementioned 10 Commandments Of Love being the exception (that voice over does kinda make for half a good track). Bobby Lester is one of the most underrated vocalists ever. Such soul, spirit and ability. I have a live lp from about 1980 of a Moonglows line up, at a bar in Jersey i think, where Bobby is backed by a pretty good group (one of which is Clyde McPhatters son), and he shows that he has such magic. sounds like there was only about 50 people in the club, and he just tears it down. Beautiful shit.
The first group I ever put together was an acappella doo-wop group when I was 16, with some guys in their 30's. Here in Toronto, that was some pretty different shit for 1987. We used to wander the streets and busk at all the outdoor patios in the summertime, and we'd make about $100 each every night. Also, it helped me get laid more than once (a true benefit). We used to do all sorts of obscure tracks like LUCKY GUY by the Mellows, and the also aforementioned WPLJ. Very large respect to the strutter who mentioned that earlier, and I will buy you a drink if I ever meet you just for name checking that song.
thanks for bringing up this thread, as it got me thinking back to my first days of singing......
and specktor joints always do it for me like "and then he kissed me"...maybe its because i first heard that song during good fellas i think it was, but that song is so dope.
is "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" considered doo wop? That's my shit too.
Even though it's from 1967, it may as well be doo-wop. (I'd also class the group that sang it, the Casinos, in the "white groups I coulda sworn were black" category.)

Well, thank you, bro! "W is for White, P is for Port, L is for Lemon, J is for Juice - White Port Lemon Juice (2x)...it's a good, good wine, it really makes me feel so fine!" After you've heard the Four Deuces' version, Frank Zappa's campy rendition is a bad, bad joke!
Here's some more to keep it going: - "You're Gonna Cry" - Spaniels - "Goodnight Sweetheart Goodnight" - Spaniels (still have fond memories of this song when it was the closing theme to Sha Na Na's TV show - remember how they'd take a few steps back and then jump up in the air while the screen did a freeze-frame?) - "Newly Wed" - Orchids - "I Love You" - Volumes - "Nag" - Halos - "Hey Nineteen" - Jive Five (Hell yes, this is the Steely Dan song, done as a doo-wop ballad! And they turned it OUT!) - "Bam Balam" - Heartbreakers - "Bad Boy" - Jive Bombers

When I was in high school the big rock station in NYC was WPLJ, who used to use a clip of that song in one of their station ID montages...
May I also add 'Ling Ting Tong' by the Five Keys and 'The Stroll' by the Diamonds??
Raj, I was hoping for one of your great mixes of all the songs from the thread.
Flamingos I Only Have Eyes For You and Lester Bowie's note for note cover is our (wife and I) song.
Soul era solo female doo wop: Betty Everett It's In His Kiss
I doubt the Five Keys lp cover is much sought after any more. Thumb was air brushed out on later pressings. In my experience pressings with the thumb are more common. Thumb looks like a thumb, not a penis.
I'd co-sign on "Bad Boy" by the Jive Bombers and add:
"I Feel So Blue" / The Royals
"219 Train" / The Moonglows
"Mozelle" / Sheppards
"Coffee Cigarettes & Tears" / The Larks
"The Defense Rest" / Lee Ward
"Give Me A Simple Prayer" / The Rayvens
Now Playing: Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, "Anthology"
The similarities between Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions are kind of striking to me, and I never pondered it much before. It would have been nice to hear a collaboration...
That's not "...the best EVAR," of course, but those two do-wop/proto-soul groups certainly deserve props for sure. Another one would be The Falcons.

Close 2nd for Doo-Woop:
Love the bass vocals on this tune! "Ahhhhhhhh--- Wop, Wop, Wop!"
Flamingos I Only Have Eyes For You and Lester Bowie's note for note cover is our (wife and I) song.
Soul era solo female doo wop: Betty Everett It's In His Kiss

I heard it again yesterday, for the first time in ages, and it's an absolute freak. It's otherworldly.
Hard to argue with blue moon but there is a lot of good stuff
Been on the turntable today.
HOWEVER. to complete it what's the name of that ubiquitous doowoop song where the band doesn't actually sing any words?
Very uptempo, like 200bpm. The nonsense words are introduced by a solo bass voice; "bow bow bow BOW"
Then the band comes in with something along the lines of
"Hair dair habadabasabada"
"Hair dair habadabasabada"
"Bow bow bow BOW"
Then everything will cut out and a solo voice mutters gibberish, before it starts all over
Anyone? Real easy one i'm sure
Found it; The Chips 'Rubber Biscuit'. Love that shit! Someone posted it above but I missed it
"I Feel So Blue" / The Royals
"219 Train" / The Moonglows
"Mozelle" / Sheppards
"Coffee Cigarettes & Tears" / The Larks
"The Defense Rest" / Lee Ward
"Give Me A Simple Prayer" / The Rayvens
but there are so so many more.
"Best" or "greatest" would be impossible for me to decide, but if there was only one (irony alert), I'd pick one of two:
Flamingos "Only Have Eyes..."
or
Jive Bombers "Stardust" or "Blue World"
