If you've never had the pleasure to listen to The Greg Foat Group, please check out all their albums. A modern day Axelrod/Dorothy Ashby/Library Recordesque Jazz Group destroyer. I can't think of their modern equivalent. Who puts out music as original and interesting as them in dope jazz, I don't know.
Just got their 3 rd album off itunes, "Dancers at the edge of time", so far it follows the suite that came before as I type this. They are a UK-spawned group of talented musicians hellbent on commanding your attention and then your mind in a hypnotic but also satisfying aural journey.
I believe I wrote about their previous 2 albums on here, "Dark as the Sun" and "Girl and Robot with Flowers", both heavy hitters. If anybody out there has heard them and can recommend a similar group please sound off, as far as I can tell they're pretty unique.
Anyways have a listen, you won't be disappointed
