Sly & Robbie's catalog is obviously enormous, and I'd like to hear more stuff they were doing in a boogie / disco / funk vein in the 80s.
The Gwen Guthrie records are probably the most famous in that line, "It Should've Been You," "Peanut Butter," etc. I guess you would count some of the Grace Jones tracks too?

sure, she doesn't really have straight boogie tracks, but she definitely has funk & disco songs – which was also in my description. i guess i mostly just referenced her b/c i wasn't looking for grace jones recommendations. like you said, none of her stuff sounds like Seventh Heaven & i'm curious if there's more sly & robbie tracks that sound like that.
most of the compass point stuff that sly & robbie worked on was more reggae/dub than what i'm talking about. and a lot of the compass point stuff that's in a boogie / disco / funk vein didn't involve sly & robbie....

Haha, I was going to poast something about the subject matter. First time I heard the song, Grace Jones was performing some televised concert (in the '80s). I remember Sly & Robbie being introduced, not knowing who they were, and to me Jones was the baddie from James Bond. I have a feeling I might have actually asked my mum what the song was about... I think she just said "Traffic".
