What's good?
I remember a few years ago there were some joints that we're metal and some shaped everyone was freaking out about but I can't find any info on em.
What would you want / look for in one?

For $8 a pop, they're a solid deal.
are there any features you would be looking for that aren't currently in these?
I'm looking at doing a manufacturing run of them.
Right now i'm leaning towards the heavy steel (or possibly brushed glass) semi-conical shape.
Even when you're at home, the novelty wears off after you find yourself using and reusing them after four or five singles in a row. Regardless, I still have a bunch of these...
...only it was white.

Two problem with these: 1) They're much harder to swap out for "small hole" 7"s. 2) I find them harder to backcue with.
I'd prefer to use normal adapters plus these: http://www.stokyoworld.com/product_p/jpn-donut.htm
I ended up buying regular Technics style ones as it's what I know but was tempted with the conical ones.
I had a crazy vision at one point of some kind of slipmat with a 45 adapter attached so you didn't get that horrible thing happen where the 45 slips under the adapter when cutting it. Not sure if it'd be possible though without either a) wearing out the label of the 45 too fast or b) being a big pile of crap though...
Something like a 7" butter rug with a 45 adapter attached ooh mama!!!
i've got these.

they work great
odub: I've been thinking about getting the donuts for a while now..
do you adjust the height of the tonearm when using these?
I guess an extra slipmat and record make the whole thing a fair bit higher which must affect playback/ abrasion..
or am I nerding out?
I'm using the dome shaped metal ones and I like them for the reasons mentioned by others but
they're not perfect for cueing/ scratching which is why some friends prefer the original technics ones.
they're super tight and more of a hassle when switching the record but obviously they also make cueing easier..
I swear by these as well.
You can be rough as hell when you're cueing and that sh*t is not going anywhere. With those cones the 45 would still slip underneath sometimes and it would drive me crazy. No longer a problem. "Mat's Mats" aren't made anymore but you can make something close enough yourself with some regular slipmats, the plastic cone adapters, and some heavy duty bonding glue.
I am sure it was just a coincidence though...
The twisted nerve ones were pretty good for scratching and back cuing as i recall.
What is the standard size for middles? Some 7"s just don't wanna go onto the technics adaptors at all.
Do these work well?

I have a feeling they look better than they work.
I have yet to find something better than the 1200 adapters for cueing/scratching. I almost bought a set of donuts, but feel like that may be a weird feeling with the height...
Anyone having luck with aluminum? like these:

Only have my 2 left. Super heavy! If they're still available I highly recommend them.
I fisked around with stainless steel ones for years but it was time to make some of my own.
