I know that golden era is frequently seen as a four letter word on this site (which vexes me because I know a lot of you folks were raised on it)...but all that being said, poast a Golden Era joint that you felt didn't get played out and you still enjoy:

Side note, kinda cool to see Smoothe and Trigg still do their thing...IMO Trigger kills this session:

Agreed. I really liked his flow. He does his thing on that cypher but then he says 'yolo'...and a part of me died.

None of these are Golden Era which ran from '88-'92.

Hmm, I always thought it went to 96. From looking at a few different time lines on the web, it seems that it's a bit of a debatable time period, no?

If not, is there a specific set of logic/events that ends it at 92?

I don't get what dictates that it ended in 92', though? I'm not disagreeing but how do you put a specific end to it? Was there some event that officially that ended it?

Biggie & Nas are not in the same Era as EpMD & Rakim.

    1992 was The Chronic.

My Golden era is '86-92. w/ '88 as the big summer/year.

Alright, so what era is Biggie, Nas and Blackmoon etc considered to be?

Nothin'...just a respectable NYC "comeback" during The West Coast dominance.
Some might say the start of the "Jiggy Era".....Puffy and them.

By the time Hot 97 debuts (embraces a Hip Hop format) the Golden Era had passed. Flex joined in 93, along w/ Ed Lover & Dr. Dre, Angie Martinez and Wendy Williams.

As Batmon mentioned, The Chronic was the turning point.

It's kind of when the east coast started to fragment into BACKPACK vs JIGGY and the other coasts started to really shine.

    BACKPACK ERA

I guess this is the problem with classifications. I probably should've just said 'poast some backpack shit' or something. I'm always shit at that...

Alright, everyone is making complete sense. Just curious, how would Nas get classified? I mean, I know he did some/a-decent-amount of jiggy shit but overall a lot of his shit seems to be neither backpack or jiggy.

    Nas is Like.

Technically Nas' debut is on Live At The BBQ which is Golden Era.

But his solo career to me is a new look and not really part of the initial Golden Age.
His "leap" is not in the same book, to me, as what Rakim did on his first two albums...or De La Soul and them.

There is always overlap but its really just a feel thang, and checking in hindsight is tough if you werent paying attention or in it.
That not a slight or snap. Just Sayin.

And just because we have a "Golden Era" doesnt mean that there is an "Era" that follows. Its just Rapp.
Jiggy, Backpack, Gangster, etc all ran together w/ no dominant style.

    Nas is Like.

Ahh, so basically Nas' "era" is commonly referred to by literally mimicking the bird chirping that Premiere chops up after the 'nas is like' sample but before the strings come in... got it.

He played all fields, but his jiggy stuff was generally terrible (except Owe Me Back).
