So you see guys/gals not knowing where to look in the bins....What are some go-to records that are cheap and almost always recommend to a stranger? Mine are Les McCann "Layers" and Milt Jackson "Olinga".
Add on.

Can't go wrong with Sun Goddess and Hot Buttered Soul,
to name of few (of what is sure to be dozens of choices ha).
Art of Tea and Sleeping Gypsy
Both of which should be easily sourced for $.50
No kidding, beautiful stuff.
Layers isn't so cheap these days... 100% on the other two recommendations and while we're on Ramsey 'Another Voyage' is one that lives mostly in the cheap racks. The Rick Ruskin debut S/T I used to see for peanuts in the US and Canada although never here in London.
Different versions of some of his big tracks with a nice cohesive stripped down sound.
For Carmen alone. That track is awesome.
Aww poop. When I was digitising tracks before putting my records into storage the only track I took off this was Slipping Into Darkness. Had a feeling there was more to the LP, but I was racing against the clock.
b/w
The Jose Feliciano with California Dreaming, George McCrae with I Get Lifted.
War "All Day Music"
Hall & Oates "Abandoned Luncheonette"
WAR may be the kings of this topic. Sly Stone too.
I don't really know what people are looking at anymore though. The whole experience is weird now.
Here's a couple more I see often that I toss at folks
Woops, I didn't mean "Layers", I meant "Talk to the People" is the one I see fairly often. And I almost always recommend.
Alic e Coltrane "Journey"......another one that is usually $15 or so, and worth every dollar....
shamefully absent from the Soulstrut 100.
When you say cheap, I think $1 to $3 records.
When you say $15, I think expensive.
Ive had this album for decades and cant get through it.
Dude.
I guess I strayed from my initial point.
But what I meant was that dollar for dollar, it is worth it.
Yoooooooo.
It's over between us.
Baby...Baby..Baby...Please.........
After years of being here and hearing you prop this up i've tried to sit down w/ it.
Ill try once again, but something is just not doin it.
And this was not a bin cop....it was in my pops collectron.
Always enjoyed this LP. Ramsey is all around good stuff and you can usually find his stuff pretty cheap.
Very good LP.
Harvey's first 3-4 LP are all good.
it has it's moments. You could invest your euro worse...
Co-sign on Layers. Got my copy from Delay probably about 15 years ago, in the same situation, "you need this".
Now it is a record I buy every time I see it and pass off to a friend who hasn't heard it. I'm probably sitting on three copies right now .
A new one to add is Hugh Masekela 'Introducing Hedzoleh Soundz':
