For a minute there was a group of players in Woodstock NY who made some great records.
RCO All Stars, Levon Helm, Booker T, Steve Cropper, Fred Carter, Donald Dunn, Mac Rebennack, Paul Butterfield and Howard Johnson leading the horn section.
I've been playing the heck out of this lately. Muddy's band is joined by Levon Helm, Fred Carter, Paul Butterfield, Howard Johnson and Garth Hudson.
There are 2 Better Days lps, Butterfield and Johnson are joined by Amos Garrett, Geoff Muldar, Bobby Charles and others.
Amos Garrett, Garth Hudson, Geoff Muldaur, Levon Helm, Mac Rebbenack, Richard Manuel, Rick Danko and others.
All of these records are great. IMO.
Can people recommend more with these players from this time and place.

His autobiography, "This Wheel's on Fire" is a great read. Good dirt on The Band and these side projects as well.
