I have such a love-hate relationship with Eduardo Araujo. There's no denying that he's got some heavy tunes but I kind of hate his voice.
Yeah I agree, it's a bit over the top. Not exactly the brazilian way
I used to think the same of Paulo Diniz but now I actually love his completely weird voice
Sometimes it sounds like Eduardo Araujo is trying too hard, and some songs work despite his presence while other songs are ruined by it (like some songs on that boogaloo LP). Even so, Sou Filho Desse Chão is pretty high up on my wants list and I give him props for doing crazy shit like this gonzo version of Construção:
Paulo Diniz, on the other hand, is the shit. He'll take an average song and make it good with his random vocal acrobatics. Songs like O Trevo, which is already good, get an extra point for whatever it is you call what he's doing there:

I've found Spotify to be pretty good for Brazilian music, so I thought I'd try putting together a playlist of the stuff that's been ID'd so far - 15 from a possible 40's OK, I guess.

The guy in the classifieds selling all that metal has it for $80, not the worst price in the world. It is going for a lot of dough on eBay these days, which I find a bit strange. Not at all rare in Brazil

last year I saw a copy for about $30 in São Paulo but sadly it had a deep scratch on one side, I'm sure I'll run into another copy at some point. I think it's in demand because it's in that Madlib Brazil mix.
isn't #14 technically by the Magnetic Sounds? Super Erotica was just the album name?
Super Erotica and Magnetic Sounds are the same band, better known as Os Carbonos. The Super Erotica stuff was released under that name since it's basically porn music, while under The Magnetic Sounds they did cheesy romantic film themes, but those LPs tend to have one funkier track.

Didn't know they were Os Carbonos. I have a 45 called 'Flash' by them that's pretty good. I also have one Magnetic Sounds Lp, but yeah, there's just one good cut on it and I'll probably purge.
I can't deal with Eduardo Araujo's vocals but I keep Kizumbau because the band is good. Paulo Diniz is great, though, I wonder if his singing style would be considered 'false bass' like Blind Willie Johnson.
sorry tripledouble, I thought you knew the song's name.
not sure which version is on that Madlib clip, I think it's one of these two:
Orquestra Som Bateau:
Os Carbonos:
that Os Carbonos is a pretty common record, pretty sure Som Bateau is easy to find too, they put out a lot of LPs and I'm never sure which are the raers, if any.
interesting! great song, from the several versions ive heard.
i really love the blazing guitars at the intro of the carbonos. anyone got playable copies they want to sell/trade...holler at muoi
i guess i need E agora Jose too. thats lovely stuff

i've got a spotify playlist of all brazilian funk here. a few overlaps (and i just added a couple more from this list): https://play.spotify.com/user/benberman/playlist/2m8hNDOVILJFKaXmIZMkir
it's not meant to be in any order; just throw it on shuffle & let it play.

thanks for all the tracks!
I'm pretty sure there's a version by Os Carbonos, and there might be others. Not sure which is the more slamming one though.
do you know the name of the song?
If it's this version in this video, I've been looking for it too.

That record that madlib has is 'De Leve', you can find it on popsike, it's apparently a compilation of American artists on a label other than polydor?
Maybe someone slipped the wrong record in his sleeve. Entirely possible in Brasil!

utters and ppadilha...thanks much, gentlemen
This is definitely the one in the Madlib video. I wouldn't mind having all the versions I've heard though. Thanks!
OK, I give up. Who is this?
Eduardo Araujo?
yes
Eduardo Ara├║jo - Terra Prometida
and
#40 is Eduardo Ara├║jo & Silvinha - Capoeira
Thanks, both.
