Coolest Thing You Ever Found in a Record Sleeve

i have heard of cash, porno, cocaine, and have found all kinds of sundry things myself but this takes the cake:

A former Motown Museum employee made an unusual???and very valuable???discovery after he returned from the estate sale of a Detroit musician: Inside a record, which he'd purchased for just 50 cents, the man found Marvin Gaye's 1964 passport.

In an Antiques Roadshow that aired on February 3, the man recounted his find to appraiser Laura Woolley.

After a Motown musician had passed, we had gone to their house to pick up some items that the family wanted to donate to the museum, and they had said, "Is there anything else you wanted? "Because otherwise, it's going to be in the estate sale this weekend." She said, "No," and I said, "What about these albums and records?"

The man didn't take any back to the museum, but he later returned to the sale and bought several albums and 45s. The albums were 50 cents each, and the 45s cost just a quarter. "When I got home, I was going through them and out of an album fell this passport," the man said, laughing. "And so it literally fell into my hands."

It's turned out to be a very valuable find. "I wouldn't put less than $20,000 on the passport if you were to insure it," Wooley told the man.

His response? "Are you kidding me? I never would have thought. I mean, I'm just shocked. I mean... wow. Oh gosh, thank you."

I once found a faded photograph of three girls topless sunbathing on a cliff. The whole scene looked like it was straight out of the seventies. For the life of me I can't remember what the record was...

    I've found:
    weed
    used syringe
    money
    funeral programs
    homework

my favorite though was some kids math test (failed big time) and his teacher wrote a note requiring a parent signature. It was inside the first Silver Apples LP.

  • I found a sappy Hallmark card written to an ex-girlfriend by someone who was clearly ESL. It ended with the asshurt line, "NOW I KNOW WHAT'S LOVE MEAN."

4 twenties, which I would gladly trade for that passport.

Antiques Roadshow - remember insurance value is much more than sell value.

Antiques Roadshow - Wow! I didn't think it was worth any thing, that is why I got here at 6am and stood in line for 5 hours to get it appraised.

  • An old Al Green concert program.

  • Sheet of LSD

  • The writing of the BPM.

A lot of those "Look, we're a great band. Local newspapers wrote about us. We were also on TV that one time. Please give us a chance!" notes

    Hey,

I found press kits in my "Atlantis" LP by Sun Ra and "Journey to Satchidanada" LP by Alice Coltrane. The kits included a black-and-white glossy photo and typeset biography. I plan to frame the items at some point.

    Peace,

Yes LaserWolf, I was stoked. The dated nature of the pictures and typesetting just screams 'vintage.'. It was like opening a time capsule.

My Funkadelic "Connections and Disconnections" has a press kit in it. I haven't looked at in a while to see exactly what's in it, but there's some letters and photoraphs for sure.

I need to dig it out and see.

I wouldn't say these are the "coolest" as much as just plain interesting or even odd.
    - a bag of crack
    - prom photos
    - nude photos (of people you really wouldn't want to see nude)
    - juke box labels
    - a will
    - pay check stubs
    - a copy of a restraining order
    - press kits
    - a clean copy of a record I was actually in need of an upgrade of but wasn't the right record for said cover.
    - a gold bracelet
    - condoms

    Never found any cash though.

  • Who needs cash when you've found a bag of crack and condoms, #amirite?

those two things are all you really need for a good time!

  • Last year I was putting some crust I pulled from the Wellfleet swap shop in the dollar bin when I noticed that Tusk felt ever so slightly fatter than usual - looked inside and pulled out an envelope dated 12/28/87:

I've found money a number of times, but this was the most.

    Also:

Weed numerous times, including a 10" pot leaf pressed in a gatefold.

    Unknown white powder.

A will. It came in handy because the owner had passed and his sister had told me that settling his estate was a hassle cos she couldn't find it. It was in a Bruce Springsteen record.

Nude photos from the 50s of two guys clowning around naked in a hotel room with some hookers. Thing was, I got these in a collection where the wife was looking over my shoulder the whole time I was going through it. I barely hid them from her gaze in time.

Tons of photos, poems, drawings, love letters, philosophical writings etc

    Press kits galore.

    best...

  • Found a crayon drawing of a pony or something like that. For some reason it was a little disturbing. It was in a shitty album too, one of those late 1970s era Dionne Warwick albums or something. I want to say there was a note on it about being for someone in the hospital.

I also found a mummified, flattened spider in a gatefold once. Didn't keep it's flavor.

  • how the hell does a syringe get in a album cover??

    i found $800 in a Eric B & Rakim cassette tape...
