Jimi also exercised restraint in the make-up dept.

Can't quite recall who he (Prince) is reminding me of there but I'll throw out some Uhuru-dressed-as-Little-Richard chips on the table for starters.

Not been in that lane for some time.

I liked "Joy In Repetition" from the live stuff. Singles? "Money Don't Matter" was nice.

Dude has the talent, if not the grip on the commercial channels for under-nose placement, to maintain his status.

  • Thing with Prince is usually this (for me): New album comes out, I give it a listen. Come away not that impressed. Go see him live, get blown away by how awesome he is and how good those songs sound when played live.

He can do whatever he wants and release crap music. Live he still is one of the best performers out there.

I checked out the new single after the Chapelle artwork was released and I actually like it a lot, way more than any of his other recent singles. The 3rd Eye Girl band he has now is really killing it though, he seems to have been energized and loosened up by playing with them.

The 3rd Eye Girl band [...] he seems to have been energized and loosened up by playing with them.

Playing with girls has that effect on me too :cheese:

    b/w

Definitely going for a Hendrix look in that vid.

This tune is from 1985! And a fantastic live version indeed, love it.

In performance, music, career choices and dress I always thought he was following Little Richard, Jimi Hendrix, Dylan and of course Joni Mitchell.
