a friend turned me onto the "earth" album and this record is just killing it. i always thought vangelis was some cheesy, lightweight world music dude as i only knew about him becasue of the chariots of fire theme...please school me on more vangelis i need in my life.

:necessary: Check the first track on my "The Head Trip" as a teaser from the LP.
Peace,
Big Stacks from Kakalak
I'm also a big fan of his stuff with Jon Anderson from Yes.
Early soundtrack work, his first post-Aphrodite's record. A tough catch, apparently
Kind of a musique concr??te thing. Especially interesting when travelling on public transport late at night.
Dunno if this is considered one of his best, and a lot of it will probably tick your "lightweight world music" box, but I really like The Long March - just a lovely melody. This was the record that put him on Ridley Scott's radar.
Classic for a reason. Several, in fact.
Heavy.
In all senses of the word.
