Just for history's sake, River Deep Mountain High famously failed to crack the top 40.

In America, maybe. In the UK it got to #3.

I haven't heard it yet - is there anything as good as 'numbers on the boards' on it?

    Yep. It sucks.

    My apologies if you're surprised.

I can't hang with the torrentz game in '13. I'm like that junky so hard up he starts asking everybody if he can score.

If we're sample spotting, then I have to give it up for the sample of "Forward Inna Dem Clothes" by Capleton on "I Am A God."

With nods to his interpolations/quoting of Lords' "Chief Rocka" and C-Murder's "Down For My N****z."

The Deep Purple cover actually did quite a bit better on the US charts (#53 vs #88).

    b/w

Never thought it was all that great a song.

Agreed... the appeal of this song has always eluded me. I wouldn't even put in in the realm of Tina Turner's best material.

  • i love it. listened to it twice through back to back in the car.

it's the most remarkably ignorant album ive heard since..... ever?

I listened to it 4 times in a row at the house. (It's short enough that you can do it.) Haven't given it the car test yet, but I will be real soon!

And I love it too. New classic?

Relax, I'm playing. I do love it though.

If this supposedly comes out on Tuesday, how come it's so hard to find a place that sells it. Not even an amazon preorder listing. Weird.

Edit: nevermind. Just read about how he was trying to avoid leaks.

Wait...does that mean Capleton is God??

Who else sung Beenie Man's "Memories" line?? It's bugging me. I know it's a classic 90s era song. Bush Babees?? Mos Def?? (Or both?) Born Jamericans??

    EDIT.

Damn it, it's "Travelin' Man." I feel stupid for not remembering that right off the bat. LOVE that song.

that's pretty funny. i was in the same boat with that beenie man line.

Even though Blood on the Leaves is the best song on here, it seems weird to use a sample of Strange Fruit just to make another song whining about hoes. and once again he samples a recent electronic song and makes it work. i like this album a surprising amount.

    read the interview this weekend.

the un-self-conscious exposition gets pretty hilarious/embarrassing sometimes.

    "I'm into high fashion."

"[As between Jay and I] I'm always in the darker mood."

"I'm into simplicity now; it takes me a LOT less time to get dressed these days."

    [I'm paraphrasing...but not really.]
