Are 7-11Freak Magnets?

  • I'll admit I step into a NY or NJ 7/11 now and again to use the free ATM machines. Something sterile and alienating about the place.

I'll check the NY Mag piece. I somehow doubt they optimize product for sale in new markets -- proof is in the jerky section. We're talking mammoth jerky sections, closets of dried meat. I think they must be using the Arkansas/Nebraska sales numbers because the average city resident does not need 19 different varieties of Buffalo Jalapeno dried buffalo jerky.

I think it's more about the hot food.

I have no idea what the demand here is for beef jerky. But I do think an artisanally crafted, locally sourced, made in Brooklyn since 2011 beef jerky company does exist, for whatever that's worth.

ETA: I don't think they are stocked in 7-Eleven, though.

I think I've seen grass-fed organic fair trade beef jerky in Williamsburg. I knew people who would go to Queens and buy chinese beef jerky by the pound - foreign and exotic is always the hipster alternative when artisanal is not available.

you'll know the 7-eleven is catering more to NYC tastes when they have an assortment of wasabi peas, pistachios and goji berries, and maybe an olive bar. If they stock haribo gummies and those japanese lychee gummies, I would probably become a regular.

the only freakshow I see like 7/11 around my way is the Pathmark. That shit is gullitude personified.

Forgetabouit, but that crossroads of Lex/125 has always been a Thriller video. Especially w/ the Metro-North a block over.

As it was directly between between when I got off the 4 and before I got on the M60 on my old commute, I have intimate personal knowledge of the Lex/125 Pathmark. It's like a circus, but the clowns have a slightly greater air of menace and insanity about them.

There's always at least a few aisles blocked off with small groups of type-2 diabetes spokespeople posted up in the middle of them just hanging out, and I'd get the "talking loud about jumping the white bwoy" routine from time to time. Never came to blows with anyone, though. But then, this would be 6 p.m. on a weekday. I bet shit really gets interesting around 1 a.m. on a Saturday night.

  • saw a homeless guy who had pissed hisself pacing out front of the 7-11 at dundas and manning near trinity bellwoods with what appeared to be a glock. my craving for taquitos at 2am was NOT strong enough to find out how real it was.
