"the heck is this thing? Drum, I guess."

is everything in Detroit just there for the taking?

I was gonna say maybe they're in that old train station, but every picture I've seen of that building suggests there aren't other tall buildings that close to it. Plus I'm sure there's more than one famous abandoned building in that city.

The plague at :49 might answer the mystery of what offices those used to be, but its just out of focus.

The building apparently is The Book Tower in Detroit. I'd be curious what offices they are going through. Verve?

Haha, that stood out to me too - how can you not know what a drum looks like? Then he calls the organ a piano.

But man, that's post-apocalypse stuff for sure.

Seems like it with both Jimmy Smith and Mel Torme. Mel Torme was where he belonged (the floor). Although that Charlie Parker LP was not on Verve.

Could be the office of a promoter or booking agent or radio station.

    b/w

Does Baltimore have abandoned office buildings? Seems to me downtown commercial district Baltimore doing ok.

Yeah, this is much more likely - I doubt Verve even had a Detroit office.

  • Hahaha, the banter at the end.

You blame me, I'll blame you, and that is the way it goes.

I guessed Booking Agent / Agency myself. Had a very 80s feel to it too.
