About

"Spacing Out" is a 1970 ultra-rare Psychedelic Funk album by The Invaders. The album is now much sought-after with original copies on Duane Records label selling for up to $1000.

The band was formed in Bermuda and the LP, along with a couple 45s, were released in Bermuda and the US. One of the best instrumental funk albums ever recorded with funky percussions and flute, a nice Latin touch and psychedelic echo-sounds. Includes two versions of the Isley Brothers "It's Your Thing", Temptations' "Can't Get Next To You" and a version of the Meters' "Look A Py Py".

I've ALWAYS wanted a copy of this record. Hard as F---!! What was the backstory of this one again? If memory serves me.. I remember some bugged out story. Correct me if I'm wrong..

Psychedelic Carribean funk 45 recorded in the Bermuda Triangle... By some funky ass hotel lounge band.

    Right?

What happened to super producer Jean-Paul Salvatore? How'd he go from Managing a pre-Pink Floyd David Gilmour to Bermuda?

"Our manager at that time, Jean Paul Salvatore, fancied himself a bit as an Andrew Loog Oldham svengali rock-n-roll manager. Then he said ???It???s flower-power now, so from now on you???re the Flowers" - David gilmour

Never seen a real copy for sale in the field, not even as a shop wall piece.

Great record. Happy to recently upgrade from mp3 to vinyl boot.
Looking forward to the final upgrade sometime in the future at which point I can release the boot to ebay with a vague description and see what happens.

Cool record, I've had the reissue for a few years. Need to revisit. Don't really see how it rates higher than numerous other records on the Strut 100.

Not sure whether I am confusing this... Isn't this the one of which somebody in London had a box full in the 80s which they put outside their house with a "please take" sign?!?!?

  • i know one dude with a copy, never seen it aywhere else. how many were pressed up?

    Got it.

I once saw an ad in a 1970s Finnish music magazine of a record shop blowout sale. A list of basic rock records included the Invaders LP being sold for the equivalent of ca. 1$.

Cannot disagree more. This deserves to be right where it is

There was a discussion about this lp some time ago on waxidermy and the variance of pressings there are out there. I was lucky to find my copy sometime ago and bought it for a really nothing(I want to say a dollar, but it could have been $5.00 or a little more than that, but not too much more (this was at big al's record barn when it was on the el camino and bought it just on the strength of the title).

That day was probably one of my better days at that shop (although at the time, he had a separate 45 shop that his wife used to help with and a big chunk of my bay area records were bought)

  • absolutely mindblowing record, would be in my personal top 20 if i had to make one.

i did a little research recently. how is it possible that people pay up to 400??? for a repress of this record when it is absolutely easy to figure out what the OG is?! (see the previous Soulstrut threads on this record for example...)

is there something about the seccond press i have missed? or is it just the fact that the first press is even more expensive and not easy to obtain?

the last seccond press sold for arround 360 ??? which is insane in my opinion.

It would be in my top 20 as well. I can't think of any other record that sounds anything like it. The heavyweight bass, delayed horns, pounding drums...ridiculous. I get chills just thinking about the first 5 bass notes from "Spacing Out". Fuck. Maybe this is a top 10 for me.
