Washington State has legalized recreational marijuana. Until enforcement is a little clearer, here's the Seattle PD's official stance. I love it. I got a pot flower and have it in a jar on the coffeetable, just because I can have up to one ounce (or a seemingly out-of-proportion 16oz of pot-infused products, or an even stranger 72fl.oz. of liquids--hash oil?). Teenage Me would be stoked.

Not sure how it's all going to pan out, as the Washington State Liquor Control Board is in charge of implementing a distribution and licensing system over the next year, but it'll be interesting. I hope we continue down this path of reasonable decisions.

Gay marriage is legal here now too. Seems weird to be proud of such "duh" decisions, but I am.

I don't understand the logic behind that. A friend of mine once got a weed oil massage and he said it was the most stoned he had ever gotten.

down here in Brazil they're talking about reforming the entire penal code, so there's some hope they'll at loosen the drug laws. Small possession is no longer a crime (I think you can get a ticket), but at one point they wanted to legalize planting it and also allow people to have small co-ops for growing it, as long as you don't sell it.

meanwhile, Uruguay makes everyone else look like idiots, having legalized weed AND abortion, and they're about to legalize gay marriage as well. Pepe Mujica for president of Earth.

I had read that Uruguay had proposed a bill to legalize and regulate marijuana, but I didn't think it had happened yet. Has it officially?

  • Would love to see some form of legalisation in the UK to bring in a bit of revenue to the economy if nothing else. I think there's almost zero chance of it happening however.

So jealous right now. My sis lives in Colorado and should make for an interesting visit this summer

Weed is the best medicine for me... not Xanax, Percoset, Vicodin... a naturally growing flower!

    It's not for everyone, doe.

I used to be with a girl who was a drugs counselor and I know the economic structure, and I also did some work for the NHS (National Health Service, Obama is working on that for you) where I had to visit mental health wards. So many youngins on there, I asked the docs what the deal was, all "Drug-induced psychosis" as a lot of them had been smoking since small kids.

A couple three four beers for me is all I need.

But then, alcohol not for everyone either.

    Sayin'.

i am guessing that most, if not all, drug induced psychosis attributed to weed is more likely a case of weed possibly triggering a pre-existing psychological condition like schizophrenia... at least that's what i've observed...

If the Federal Government can sue a state for trying to upheld a Federal law they certainly can sue them for upholding a State law.

This was the thinking a while back, but more recent research suggests that weed can induce psychosis/etc without any pre-existing condition or predisposition.

the bill passed already. Not sure when exactly it will go into effect, I think some time next year, but the government will grow and sell all the weed, and only uruguayan citizens will be allowed to buy. I live in Rio Grande do Sul, the state that borders Uruguay, and the people here always like to think they're more uruguayan or argentinian than they are brazilian. I'm sure a lot of them are scrambling to find their grandma's uruguayan passport so they can claim citizenship now...

he was the bartender at the place right to my house. I saw him the day after it happened, he was like "man I'm still stoned." When he told me the story it made me wish I had his life.

apparently legalizing pot in Uruguay was too good to be true. Seems like the law has been put on hold, although from what I can tell maybe they'll still allow for people to grow their own?

I was looking forward to people making the 5-hour trip to the border down here and coming back with some gifts.

my dad has been a psych-therapist/addiction specialist for about 20 years in a juvenile/adolescent unit and he says 80% of the kids who come into the unit that have been dealing with drug and mental issues have serious psychological addications to marijuana and its a huge problem.

  • Trust me, your neighbors to the south are still wondering how you guys got more progressive than us... Unfortunately for Oregon we have a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage to overcome and hopefully in 4 years (mid-term elections are not conducive to this kind of ballot measure) we will see a much better ballot measure modeled on the WA and CO laws (man, that used to be us).

The Oregon measure got shot down (and for good reason, it was a mess). The pro-legalization folks did a piss poor job of educating the voting public on the issue to move it forward.

WA's new law created new DUI guide lines, allowing police to bust people driving stone.
A driver in Vancouver was just charged under the new law.

    This is true.

I believe it set 6 nanograms as the legal limit, making it equivalent to .08 for a DUI.

One of my co-workers told me she voted against I-502 because she felt that limit was too low. There's some merit to that, mostly due to THC being still active in your system isn't the same as alcohol still being active. Habitual smokers could have the 6nngms in their system, not being feeling it.

It's not perfect, but no reason to let lack of perfecton stand in the way of the good. The law can be amended.
