Last night my wife and I were stuffing our face with a plate of fried seafood at a hole in the wall on Bowen's Island SC and a dude randomly threw some change in the jukebox and played 'Earth Angel'....I forgot how much I love that song.
It's not rare, and it's not like it isn't really easy to hear...but it's an absolutely great record.
Any of y'all got any records that have the same sound/vibe/whatever?.....
NOTE: I'm talking about The Penguins version...not The Imitations...

This Rhino compilation should fit your bill.
If it's individual titles you want...
Orchids - "Newly Wed"
Dells - "Oh What A Night"
Flamingos - "Golden Teardrops"
Jerry Butler & the Impressions - "For Your Precious Love"
Mello Kings - "Tonite Tonite"
Nolan Strong & the Diablos (in general)
Danleers - "One Summer Night"
Knockouts - "Darling Lorraine"
I'm assuming you're looking for slow 1950s harmony group recordings, right?
Flamingos - I Only Have Eyes For You
Kindly,
parallax
Their biggest hit was "In The Still Of The Night."
Also, in a different vein, Lester Bowie - I Only Have Eyes For You.
There often are lots of vocal group comps in the various artist section.
Should be cheap. I was listening to a Crown/RPM one the other day.
I totally know that song. I had no idea their name was 'The Five Satins'....what a great group name! I've noticed this genre has a ton of awesome and random names....like the thread starter...The Penguins....so awesome.
And fabric names, Satins, Orlons, Chiffons, Velours... some of these are on the distaff side.
A friend of mine calls them low rider oldies.
:pause:
Doo-Wop was like Hip Hop bitd. Many cats went threw a "singing in the street" phase.
My pops sang on Harlem corners w/ his buddies then.
My Aunt Billie told me he was out singing alot as a teen.
She married my Uncle Sonnie Gourdine who is Little Anthony Gourdine's Brother.
Great love making music.
My fathers best friend Rayfield married Sonia ( the cutie on the left) of The Chantels...Bronx Doowop.
or just set your radio to:
Didn't know.
That's kind of a big deal.
In one of Amy Winehouse's last appearances the band introduced her by playing Shimmy Shimmy Ko ko Pop. Sounded great.
