The "2 Record Sets 1 Record Too Long" thread reminded me of a subject I wanted to ask about for ages:
Why did so many Funk and Soul acts in the late 70s and throughout the 80s include a Reggae track on their albums?
Reggae was popular but bad Reggae was never popular, or was it?

Are there any examples of listenable quality?

    I can think of a lot of rock examples, but the funk/soul examples are not coming to me.

    Lionel Ritchie - Dancing on the Ceiling? Is that what we are talking about?

    OK, they are starting to come to me.
    Good example:
    Grace Jones - My Jamaican Guy
    Donna Summer - Unconditional Love

    May not be good reggae songs, but I like them as Jones and Summer album cuts, and even singles.

    I really like the song "Always Something Missing" by Ralph MacDonald from his Countepoint album.

    I don't know if this counts, as the they made more or less pop music.
    It was a big spin for Baldelli in the 80s and it has often been described as heroin reggae:
