About

3rd album of aching-sweet soul with impossibly high, soaring vocals & cozy string arrangements. Produced not in Philly, but Baltimore, by George Kerr (apparently they were his pet project). Kerr also did work for the O'Jays, Moments & the legendary Skull Snaps. Quite endearing liner notes declare "Billy's lead is like a cool whiskey sour."

Contains the sampled classic "Why Can't People Be Colors Too."

I can't think of this group and not think of my friend Andy. He went for years calling this group the Whatanuts. We were talking about them and I said "you mean the Whatnauts?" and it blew his mind and he laughed. He'd reversed the two letters and never thought twice about it.

Never seen a copy of this.

This might as well be the Machine lp because I will probably never see the og of either one in the field.

same here. never seen it on a wall, in a store, in a crate, at an auction, in anyones collection... not a whiff of it for 15 years. Have a reish i got in late 90s.

Bought the OG in the field for $75, first and last time i ever spotted it irl. A great album back to back, allthough the htf'ness adds to the myth, which can not be said about a great deal of the albums lower on the Slstrt top 100.. Alas, part of the cult IMO.

Off topic: when will Machine be rereleased? MP3's will not do :-)

I've had it more times than their other 2.

  • Great record. I found a sealed original for cheap a while back, but ended up selling it and now have the reissue filed. Anyone ever seen the japanese press?

Never seen a copy of this.

Unless it's by the Moments or Sylvia, I very seldom see any All Platinum LPs in the field prior to 1975,

I've never seen this record in the field. Not sure what I'd shell out for it at this point either.

I do know one thing, however.

If your facial expression didn't change the first time you heard those drums drop on "Why Can't People Be Colors Too"........check your pulse. Absolutely devastating sounds. Props to whoever engineered those sessions.

in all the years of buying and selling records, i've never come across one either. even on the east coast, and in baltimore, not one.

    Hey,

Here's another great LP on the Soul Strut 100. Whille I love "Why Can't People Be Colors Too?", my main songs are "I'll Erase Your Pain" and "You Forget too Easy." I'm glad these underground joints are getting some shine.

    Peace,
