I you (like me) hate the sound of Joan Baez's abrasive falsetto or think that Peter, Paul, and Mary are goofy, then I hope that you realize that "Folk music" in the 60s was at the very end of its run. Tail of the brachiosaurus.

Here's what you do: go to your local library and check out Harry Smith's 6 CD "American Anthology of Folk Music." No public library in America has the right be without one (request it if you need to - it's on Folkways, for God's sake, and shouldn't be hard for a library to obtain). Listen to this music slowly. Song by song. It's a foreign language to people used to pop-based "Folk = Genre" songs.

Burn it to your computer, or something. It's what Harry Smith himself would have wanted.

I appreciate the science, and yeah, I did equate folk with what must really be a very narrow part of it's history.

Can i still dig Phil Ochs?
