    King Solomon

  • No no, it's "The Thing with Two Heads". You're reading into it.

When Motown bought out Golden World a month later, it was the start of a nightmare period for Barnes. Although he cut many tracks in the studio, nothing was released, because it was felt that he sounded too much like Marvin Gaye.

Picked that record up on Contempo. Nice.

I think you could probably include about a 1000 different albums that came out between 1970 and 1978. Sounds like you mean anything that had a big string and horn section, basically, although not sure where Still Bill comes in to all that.

so start somewhere and we will arrive to 1000... you name one "singer" that had production like that (no bands, and no "45 only" artist allowed)

and listen once again to "lonely town.."... "ain't no sunshine" to hear where the string section come in...it's low profile approach but the orchestration is defintively there

Gotta give honourable mention for M.S's California Soul intro.

The strings on that mother were

And similarly with The Jackson 5's - I Wanna Be Where You Are.

    Those were more though.

Gene Orloff, Emanuel Green, Don Sebesky and Lalo Schiffrin did arrangements on probably hundreds of recordings between them and they're just the tip of the iceberg.

those are not soul singers....we are not discussing arrangers here

...name just soul albums with orchestral arrangemets by singers that hasn't been posted yet

More like '68, but I think Freda Payne's "How Do You Say I Don't Love You Anymore" is a great and criminally slept on orchestral soul album.

    Cuts deep.

  • 1. Earth Wind and Fire had some good brass and string arrangments.
    2. How can we for get black moses Issac Hayes is the best when it comes to string and brass.
Thats all I can think of rite now.

    peace

  • fully brass-y & string-y
