Although a serious player and very complete musician
when the guy "was asked" to play funky, he was the funkiest.......

miles "Live evil"......
hubbard "first light"
Farrell "moongerms"

imo the funkiest drummer in CTI

what abt the albums he did solo or that project named compost ?

    Timeless with John Ambercrombie and Jan Hammer on ECM has got some nice parts to it.

    definitely some funk on Joe Henderson's "Black is the Color" and "Multiple"
    "Backwoods Song" on the first Gateway lp on ECM
    the two Hubbard/Turrentine/Hancock "In Concert" CTI's
    the Compost Life is Round lp has some beats

    Johnny Hammond - Big Sur Suite from Higher Ground LP
    Freddie Hubbard / Stanley Turrentine Live In Concert Vol. 1 (he gets downright funky on "Povo" along with Herbie Hancock's extra wah-ed out Fender Rhodes)

    Don't forget CTI Live at the Hollywood Bowl. Funkfather, Rocksteady etc This is some serious jazz/funk drumming on long 10-12 min songs.
