Shit is getting out of hand. What are some of the worst mash-ups you've heard lately?

  • My gal works in music production. Everyone who wants a young, hip n happening TV spot is requesting a "mashup". Just listen to the TV these days and there's some truly awful Fruity Loops shit going on. Actually to them, mashup means stringing together a bunch of riffs from hair metal tracks that these PR types listened to in their youth. Lets get it started / I just wanna rock n roll / aaaaaaaall - night - long

:hellno: graemlin request. (opposite of shit yeah)

  • I saw some record with a milli vanilli mashup. I didn't even have to listen to it to know it would be horrid. I cringed when I later read it had a go-go sped up version of mike jones. All sounds like some straight hipster bullshit.

Amerie's 1 thing set of a whole bunch of baaaaad mashups. I heard one white lable with Amerie over a jazzy track (maybe a 7samurai instrumental) that really hurt my ears. Out of tune & off beat. damn.

Last month my father and law did a job in VEgas and was telling me that a club was "doing those....uhgh Mash-ups"

It sounds like you are refering to Tittsworth's new EP. It is straight dope b-more club style remixes of Still Tippin, Sardines, Some Cut, When's the Last Time (Clipse), the People's Court Theme, Eastern Motors theme (DC/MD/VA heads know the deal) and a Milli Vanilli "tape jam" remix. I would not call it mashup at all.

    Shit bangs, b-more club style.

    ugh.

  • the mix is hilarious (and good). It's a novelty for sure, but a good one. Played it out last saturday.

  • I can see it being good, just the fact that those commercials drive me nuts (work related).

  • not really trying to holler at a milli vanilli record. A man has to draw the line in the sand.

  • How 'bout that Bob Deep stuff: yay or nay?

  • GnatGnat 1,183 Posts
Yeah, if I understand Alien's very insistent point, some of what y'all are talking about are remixes. When original beats are made under pre-recorded lyrics. I do suppose the Grey Album is a Blended Remix of sorts being that all samples were derived from one album.

In any case, yeah some of the shit is real bad, but am I to understand that everyone who has posted thus far HATES blends? I think some are real dope...make a song I use to hate/not care for totally appealing...

  • I like to mash up potatoes and corn.

surprisingly good. ditto for the biggie/sinatra CD (not the same DJ but the two are somehow related. "from the people who brought you..." type deal) - these worked primarily because there were original beats involved. it was just good hip hop with a conceptual streak as far as the sample sources are concerned.

    that's by my boy Swindle.

what about over-the-top mash-ups/blends that ACTUALLY work??? [/b]

Mobb Deep over Ghostbusters (Who did that one?). On paper it reads bad, but the way Hav's and Pro's verse kinda bounce over the beat=real fresh

B-Cause has the real crazy one of Dre Dog over Pat Benetar (?). Again it reads terrible, but it works.
