So I see these auctions go up the other day, all Nike SBs brand new in the box, all size 8 and 8.5, all deadstock. I look a little closer and notice that although the seller is from the States, they ship from Asia, not too uncommon. Then I notice they are all 3 day listings with the high bidder "user ID kept private". Mmmmmm. Then I check out their feedback and it's %100 but from 14 auctions that mostly they (the seller) won. I check a little further 'cause I'm paranoid like that and I notice that 13 of them are $.99 "how to become a better ebayer" and "how to get a %100 feedback" PDF file auctions, primarily from Canada. What's up with that?http://cgi.ebay.com/Nike-Dunk-Low-Pro-SB-HOMER-sz-8_W0QQitemZ7711234228QQcategoryZ63850QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemhttp://cgi.ebay.com/Authentic-Nike-Dunk-Low-Pro-SB-JEDI-sz-8_W0QQitemZ7711240577QQcategoryZ63850QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemAm I being paranoid? I already decided I don't need the shoes that bad right now and am not going to bid but I'm just curious what you guys think.Deep beats and deep kicks,SonicReducer(TEAMAARON)

  • DON'T DO IT!

throw down some extra $$ to make sure you pay for a product that actually exists...

BTW: let me perform a mini hijack and post a pair that's high on my wantlist:

please to post yours- i wanna see some shoes!

  • It's possible the guy is just starting in the shoe business and wanted to get some quick feedback. I thought of doing that once. Just proceed with caution and if you pay using Paypal make sure you're protected. Frankly, I wouldn't do it.

I'd avoid those auctions like the plague. I won an auction for a pair of the Stash Dunks (only 50 pairs made) the other month and they ended at like $400 (instead of the $2000+ they usually sell for on store sites) - so I was immediately slightly suspicious (but secretly hoped that I'd lucked out).

It turned out the guy had used pictures of the genuine items in his auction, but was going to ship 'variants' (ie. fakes) from Asia to me. Luckily, he was reasonable enough to refund me my Paypal'd cash straight away... but a lot of people have been caught out this way.

I can post up a rough guide on how to spot fakes if anyone wants...

They have these at a store my boy works at here in MD. I can see what the deal is if you'd like. I'm 99 percent sure it was those, if not they were really similar.

OK... here's a very rough guide on how to spot fakes/variants/bootlegs of certain Nike models. Bear in mind, that this is based on what I've experienced and read myself (props to the CT forum guys, Niketalk, Hypebeast, Slamxhype etc.), so if anyone else out there has any extra points, post 'em up!

The Diggers With Gratitude rough guide to identifying fake Nike shoes (version. 1.3)[/b]

    1) The seller is from China.[/b]

If this comes across as prejudiced, I apologise, but in my experience almost ALL of the fakes are made in China. My Stash Dunks I almost ended up buying were being shipped express from China - warning bells quite rightly started ringing immediately.

    2) They're very inexpensive/have not many bids placed[/b]

Of course you *can* find bargains on eBay, but with so many collectors out there now, it's getting harder. If you see something that seems too good to be true (ie. Supreme Dunks at $100 instead of the average $500 or so going rate), then it probably is.

    3) The box is wrong[/b]

The first series of Nike Dunk SBs come in the orange box. The pink box series should have a light pink colour - NOT a dark pink/bright pink.

    4) The tongues[/b]

Real Dunk SBs should have a contoured shape to them - not a squared off version.

    5) Colours[/b] (apologies for the UK spelling, but that's how we do it here in London!)

The colours of the fakes are usually a lot brighter than the originals. Or, in some cases, you're getting colours that were never even used...

    6)Check out reputable sneaker sites[/b]

Sites like Retrokid and Crooked Tongues have lots of angle shots of proper shoes to reference.

    7) The shapes[/b]

The shapes of the fake shoes are usually way off. Bulkier in places and with different shaped toe-boxes. Also watch for the 'swooshes' - these are usually way off on the fakes. If it looks 'wrong' you know what you're getting...

The edge of the swoosh on an authentic SB should line up with the 5th lace hole in all cases.

    8) If you've bought 'em and received them already...[/b]

Shoes with a real Nike Air unit in the sole won't bend in half easily. If yours do, there's a pretty good chance that they're fakes - or the air unit has burst at least.

If I think of any more pointers, I'll post 'em up.

Everything gets bootlegged quicker than ever these days - the Tiffanys that everyone was flipping out about the other week have already been done.

    Keep 'em peeled!

Those Homer SB's are some of the hardst fakes to catch, but those are definitely not real. The easiest way to tell is to look at the box label. Check the pics from that first auction:

If you look at the sz 8.5 marking, the 5 is placed slightly higher than the 8. On a real Nike SB label the tops of the numbers should line up evenly. That price is way too low too, 99% of the time there are no steals like that to be had on real dunk SB's because too many people are looking for them.

One last thing, if you look at the seller's feedback, the only thing they have sold is a couple of fake NBA jerseys. All of the rest of the + feedback is from buying 99 cent items on how to sell on ebay and stuff like that. Sellers like that are always out to rip people off/ Remember the golden rule, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

  • This one is easy. Obviously a scam. He has been a member in Taiwan but his location is in Washington. . Doesnt add up.

  • Who's website was this off of?

I saw it at Empornium. Doesn't matter though, she needs shoes too.

  • Haha. She's hot no shoes necessary.
