Noz, I've never worked with phpBB2, but odds are these kids were out searching for websites running boards with older versions of the software that had a known vulnerability. Are you the sysadmin for the server that hosts your site, or is it managed by someone else? In any event, a good start would be to make sure that you are up to the latest versions of phpBB2 and all underlying software (ex. PHP, your database backend). Also, I'd suggest changing any passwords you use to access your site, just to be safe.

wow, that fuckin sucks...sorry man. I wish I knew more about that crap.

  • fuck that

  • Is all the information saved in a MySQL database? Is the database still intact? I would recommend contacting the people at phpBB or their support forum and ask there. In a lot of cases if the MySQL database hasn't been messed with you can just reinstall the board and it should be fine. Just be sure you don't erase the MySQL info in the process. I know the vBulletin board can do it. Not sure about phpBB.
