4 on the floor ... Larry or ... Willie?

Just stumbled over "Theme From The Man" of Isaac Hayes. It's from 72. "The love I Lost" is from 73. Same drum pattern. So did Willie Hall invent the Philly-Drums?

  • I mean kinda, but he's busier on the bass drum than just 4 on the floor in that tune, isn't he?. Also the open hi-hat isn't on every off beat. It's close, but I think if you're looking for a more undeniable connection to what followed, it has to be The Love I Lost.

Who is the godfather of house music?

For what I class as House, Larry Heard, esp. his Mr. Fingers stuff.  There is earlier Detroit 4/4 but it's from where Electro became Techno, to me.  Which might be your thang but Larry's stuff had that atmosphere.
