I always thought "the message" was an original beat.
I'm aware that recreating boogie/soul/funk and rapping over it was standard procedure for hip hoppers back then. But, this is the first I've ever heard of this in after about 10 years of listening to to boogie and old school hip hop. Can anyone confirm which came first?

We are talking here of an ultra obscure Brit old school Hip Hop that will instantly remind you of the classic Hip Hop anthem “The Message” by Grand Master Flash. It is difficult to figure out which of the 2 versions came first but according to some sources, The Evasions would be the original version sampled by GMF. The real deal is the flip side entitled “Let’s Dance (The Passage)” .
