Can we get some banter going on here again?

I see you lurking. Did you forget how to type? I have a crew of kids in Bristol, CT waiting to liven this place up with some Timmy Digalot banter.

Like McClusky for Giant type shit.

I got to meet the man, the myth, the legend that is Harvey 'muh fuggin' Canal while in Austin for bizness. Cool ass dude...introduced me to some of his fellow DJ homies...put up with my goofy drunk ass (note to computer nerds...when you go to conventions, the vendors have a 'get your customers wasted' budget and they use it liberally)...chopped it up over some beers...Harv even saved me an 'uber' fare and gave me a lift back to my hotel. Not to mention he had a grip of good recommendations for me to check out while in Austin.

Good times all made possible by SoulStrut.

It's alive and well in my opinion...even if the posts aren't as frequent as BITD.

    Hey Raj,

I had some music posts to make, I just got busy with work-related activities. I've been listening to a lot of music lately, so I plan to chop it up with the 'Strut massive for their thoughts. We're in there (yeah, yeah!!!)

    Peace,

To give you an update, I have taken on the task of Soul Strut historian.

I am "trying" to comb every thread from 2002 to present to document unique happenings and shit I may have missed.

I have come across a ton a shit I have never heard of that I really enjoy mentioned in threads just from 2002!

    I completely forgot about this:

    Diggin' Commandments circa 2002

    1. If the inside ain't white, it's probably alright.

    2. If it smells like dust, then don't you fuss.

    3. Bar code? Don't pay a load.

    4. Paste-on cover? Fork it over.

    5. If the seam is split, you gots the grit

    6. Unless its wrapped in heavy cardboard, it most certainly is to be ignored.

    7. If the mildew is present no need to be hesitant.

    8. If it says Tijuana Brass, that's your cue to pass.

    9. If it's after '74, then, digger take warnin'.

    10. If itÔÇÖs pre-ÔÇÿ68, the breaks ainÔÇÖt that great.

    11. If its post-ÔÇÿ78, it better have an 808.

    12. If the covers not ragged, think twice before you bag it.

    13. If it says Timmy Thomas, it's about as funky as the Amish.

    14. If you're trying to ball, Don't put a reissue on your wall.

    15. If it has the word chicken, you know it be kickinÔÇÖ.

    16. "Funk" in the title don't mean it's vital.

    17. If you don't have money to blow, don't go to a record show

    18. Put bean dip on my Stark Reality, and there might be a fatality.

    19. If it's by Rufus Thomas, you know there's a promise.

    20. If Shadow looped it, PUT THAT SHIT ON THE 'BAY, STUPID!!!!

    21. Fat B-Lines move the behinds.

    22. Ill Horn Stabs make for good grabs.

    23. If it smells like Charles Slocumb, you're bound to get open.

    24. If there is a website on the other side, put it back and save your five.

    25. Just because they're all white, doesn't mean that it ain't tight.

    26. Fools give their money for the dealers to take then they get home and find a 4 second break!

    27. Looks too mint? Probably in-print.

    28. Worth the dough? Check for the fro!

    29. Even with the fro, it can easily blow.

    30. If you want to be a big player, you got to have every record by Leo Sayer.

I liked that JectWon would stop mid-sentence to point out the deejay doing a good mix between songs...when I didn't even realize he was listening to the deejay.

    b/w

Haha, always gotta tune the ears to the selector. Dude was killing it. I'm just a bit ashamed to not be giving dude my full attention...but we were respectful and kept our chatter in the back of the house by the bar.

man what is his generation gonna think if they hear rapp from that era? will it sound like barbershop to them?

So many drums and "organic" sounds.
    IT SOUNDS SO ANGRY.
    I CAN'T GLOSTICK TO IT.
    IT SOUNDS SO PREACHY.
    IT SOUNDS SO OLD SCHOOL.
    WHAT IS A "DJ?"
    WHAT IS HE "CUTTING?"
    WHAT IS HE "SCRATCHING?"

If you think this is unrealistic, go watch kids "reacting" to playing original Nintendo or read that millennial's "review" of It Takes a Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back.

My younger cousin (not that much younger) wanted to "play vinyl." I had to explain to her what she needed to play records, which ended up being incredibly surprising/excruciating.

    Highlights include:
You need a "receiver" (then explaining what that was)
You need speakers (gently affirming what she believed those to be)
Explaining that a USB turntable has bad quality playback

Hah, yeah, but there will always be those freaks & hipsters that need to be up on the best shit from every era. Isn't that why this site exists?

I was hanging with some people in their early/mid 20's the other night who were bugging out to 93 til. That song is old enough to drink now!

Jesus...every time things like this are pointed out, I feel physically older...I think your comment just gave me mild arthritis in my fader hand.
