"Get-Up State" - Three Days of Live, Mural Painting, Featuring Some of the World's Finest Graffiti Artists. The mural painting will be taking place Friday through Sunday. All wall space is reserved and visitors are requested to respect guest artists and their working space. Visit the Get-Up State Facebook page for regularly-updated information. Public panel discussion featuring DJ Afrika Bambaataa, MC Sha-Rock of the Funky 4 Plus 1 More (Hip Hop's 1st influential female MC), Rahiem of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (the first Hip Hop group inducted into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame), and filmmaker Timothy C. Brown Sr. (who shot the earliest known footage of a Hip Hop performance in 1977, which features the Funky 4 and others)..... the audience at this event will be treated to the FIRST PUBLIC SCREENING EVER of this raw, unedited footage. Special Gallery Night opening of "Top 2 Bottom: A Journey Through the Elements of Hip-Hop Culture" an exhibit, on display at Tompkins County Public Library until June 14, featuring the acclaimed Hip-Hop photographs of Joe Conzo and Ernie Paniccioli, a showcase of early Hip-Hop memorabilia including house party flyers, a new body of work by Ithacan Jay Stooks, and graffiti materials from the collection of Cap Matches Color. Joe will be joined by fellow South Bronx native and Ithaca resident, Eldred Harris, and Jorge "Popmaster Fabel" Pabon of the Rock Steady Crew and Tools of War to give a presentation on the history of destruction and rebirth in the SBX during the earliest days of Hip Hop culture.
