Ground Lift Media and the Minnesota-based design collective Burlesque of North America have joined forces to present the 2013 installment of DRE DAY: A Celebration of the Life and Music of Dr. Dre. February is quickly approaching, and this will be Chicago???s fifth year celebrating Andre Young and his creative contributions to the world of Hip-Hop.

It???s time to strap on your Compton hats and locs and celebrate the music and legacy of one of the greatest Hip-Hop artists of all time, the icon responsible for introducing the world to acts as diverse as N.W.A., Snoop Dogg, The D.O.C., Eminem, J.J. Fad, 50 Cent, Arabian Prince, and so many more. Bring your friends and celebrate the important birth date and memorable works of Dr. Dre!
Dre Day 2012 exceeded everyone???s expectations, and in 2013 we???re continuing to expand with bigger headliners, increased production values, more Dre activities / swag! Psalm One (Rhymesayers) and Rich Jones (of SCC) take on hosting duties, with a Dr. Dre beat set by Max + Pore (Beats Cost Money), and a Nate Dogg Tribute by Wes Restless. Also featuring DJs Intel, Maker, Big Once,Trew, Pickel, & Kool Hersh, Live video installation by Shudder Inc, Photos by Peter Parker Lewis + Roper Fuentes (THHP).

In continuing with the tradition set by last year???s Dre Day celebration, swag bags and additional Dre Day merch will be available (sticker packs, tees, screen-printed 40 oz. bags, etc???) as well as a ???Chronic???-themed photobooth, $20 Sack Pyramid game, Crip walk contest, and Dr. Dre Karaoke.

Psalm One
Psalm One isn???t trying to be your favorite female rapper. She???s just trying to be your favorite. She brings all kinds of goodies to the table. She???s sonically soulful, artistic, witty, and lyrically unparalleled. Her influences include Stevie Wonder, Fiona Apple, Prince and MC Lyte.

Wes Restless
An 80???s baby, born in Chicago to a musical family, Wes Restless has always had a tune running through his head. Currently, Wes is involved in a vast number of ambition musical projects, including the sophisticated, Rat Pack style hip-hop group The Gent$ and the throwback soul band The Jordan Years. He is also working on a number of other solo and collaborative projects. While Wes prides himself on the diversity of musical styles that he???s capable of. Some of his work is reminiscent of artists like Mos Def, Phonte of Little Brother, Citizen Cope, or Mayer Hawthorne.

DJ Intel
Solid technical skill, unmatchable versatility, and a true love for music are among the many things that separate DJ Intel from his contemporaries. His unique style makes him a fan favorite. DJ Intel's ability to spin many genres, including house, rock, dubstep and contemporary as well as hip hop classics, keeps the dance floor full and leaves the people wanting more at the end of the night. DJ Intel's interest in turntablism began in the mid 90's. He looked up to such Chicago legends as DJ PNS and Tone B Nimble and soon began the journey of perfecting his craft. Armed with his brother's hand-me-down turntables, a mixer and passion, he would begin to make his name as one of Chicago's premier party starters.

Maker
Hailing from a city just 40 miles outside of Chicago named Aurora -- known mostly for its advances in streetlight technology -- Marco Jacobo (aka Maker) has spent the past 12 years honing his production talent, releasing a barrage of albums/45s/remixes, and spending a lion???s share of his non-studio time on the road.
But despite all this, you may not have heard his name mentioned until recently. Emerging from the vital Chicago underground Hip-Hop community of the late 90s, his role as producer naturally kept him behind the scenes, tweaking levels and digging for ???breaks,??? yet fans quickly began to associate hard, organic drums and deftly chopped/arranged dusty samples with ???The Sound of Maker.???

DJ Trew
DJ TREW.. is the kind of DJ you wish you saw last weekend. Getting his start doing house parties in the Baltimore/DC area, he transplanted himself onto the Chicago scene early 1998. The results of which can be seen in his selection, which spans seemingly disparate genres from both coasts. (yes, the midwest is a coast now... didn't you know?).... A b-boy at heart, ..DJ TREW.. sets include Funk (pre- and post- James Brown, Afro, Latin, Brazilian), Hiphop (old school classics and new school would be classics), Soul (modern, boogie, and sweet), Rare Groove, Electro, Bmore, Acid House/Jack and b-boy friendly drum breaks extended ad infinitum.

DJ Big Once
Disc Jockey, remix expert, and 2011 Red Bull Thre3style U.S. Champion, Big Once has been mixing and cutting wax for over thirteen years. He got his start as a teenager; spinning house parties, putting out mixtapes, and working with several local bands and emcees. Big Once broke into the Chicago hip-hop scene while still in college and since he has steadily been building his rep as one of the most well-respected and in-demand DJs in Chicago and across the country.
