About
In the Jungle Groove is a compilation album by American funk and soul musician James Brown, released in August 1986 on Polydor Records in the United States.[11] Originally issued to capitalize on the popularity of Brown's music in hip hop circles at the time, it includes the first album release of the much-sampled single "Funky Drummer" (1969), along with a selection of previously unreleased tracks, alternate takes, and remixes. The original recordings were produced by Brown, while the reissue was produced by Cliff White and Tim Rogers.[12] A similar follow-up compilation, Motherlode, was released in 1988.
The album's title is taken from a song Brown recorded in the studio in August 1970. The full recording of the song "In the Jungle Groove" remains unissued; however, on the album its introduction is appended to the beginning of "I Got to Move", another previously unreleased song recorded at the same session. A remastered and expanded 2003 reissue of In the Jungle Groove added a bonus track, an extended version of "Blind Man Can See It" from the Black Caesar soundtrack album.[13] In 2003, the album was ranked number 330 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.[14]

"give it up or turn it loose" without the fake crowd swells/noises and unneccessary reverb is probably the hardest, funkiest thing ever recorded. when he calls on "clyde" and "bootsy", both men give performances of a lifetime.
Rap as we know it would not exist without this record.
There are 2 records I buy every time I see it. This is one of them. There was a time when my dad would pick me up at school blasting this album and I would get really embarrassed and hide my face as I hurried to the car and begged him to turn it down. But now I would give a limb to go back and sit in that car and thank him for being that dude. LOVE THIS ALBUM.
This. No question.
Genius performances, genius remixes/edits, genius compilation.
Sad to see it at #47. Curious to see the next forty six that beat it.
Although I kind of prefer the Think break on the flip:
thread hijack! still Thinking
I have four words, "I Got to Move". I play this track aaaaaaaaaall the time, and it still makes me nod my head without pause. The rest of the classics on "In the Jungle Groove" get regular spin too, but "I Got to Move" is bananas!!! I'm glad this LP was recognized for the Soul Strut 100 as it assembles some of JBs best late 60s/early 70s classics.
Peace,
