    Congratz,

So...now that the pretentious "money" phase is over, what's next for our fearless friend?

Not exactly--I like to keep the information imperfect.

Reynaldo..you are selling some very nice records all at once...do you no longer enjoy these records? are these doubles? are you in financial trouble? have you always intended to be a seller? is there a bigger picture in all of this? i'm oddly curious

Reynaldo..you are selling some very nice records all at once...do you no longer enjoy these records? are these doubles?

Here is the breakdown: some are indeed doubles (e.g., Lloyd McNeill Elegia, Silver Apples S/T, Heath Brothers Marchin On), some are things that are not in the condition I would like them to be in to be in my collection (e.g., LISTENING s/t, CHARLIE MINGUS East Coasting, LLOYD MCNEILL QUARTET Asha One) and I plan on re-purchasing some of these in better condition in the future. The rest of the things, especially in that last auction (the Descendants of Mike and Phoebe, Quintessence, Osanna, Dizzy Reece, On Any Sunday OST, Planetarium, Nathan Davis, etc.) are records that I paid $2-$3 for--pretty recently, too--and partly enjoyed but not really enough to keep as part of "The Collection??." And I have made digital copies of the material that I do like, so I don't really feel like I am giving up much--I can still enjoy the music, just not the object.

I think it was faux_rillz that said one has to be "heartless" when thinning out one's collection and that is exactly the mindset I am in now. Plus, the money has been decent.

I have to go cash a check now.

    are you in financial trouble?

    No. Never.

have you always intended to be a seller?

No, not at all--and I don't really intend to be in the future, especially when I have a career and such. Not that I won't still sell records occasionally, it just won't be a need or a priority.

is there a bigger picture in all of this?

Well, it started out as a way to get money for records, but as my buying binge continues, my want list gets shorter and shorter and soon--it seems--I'll need something else to spend money on, or I can save/invest it but that's not nearly as fun as posting my e-digs in the finds threads.

I meant in the future when I have a career--I'm currently working towards a career and vacation is hard work.

  • I doubt I'll ever make a post simply to point out how well one of my auctions went off.

The impending global recession. Get money while there's still money to get.
