Record grading question

How do grade a record that looks stone mint but plays with chrackles for no apparent reasons?
I have a record that has a lot of quiet parts in which the chrackles are a bit annoying.

    You pretty much did it right there.

    Say it looks NM and plays VG+.

    Weak VG+, More than likely the hiss/crackle is a factory defect. What label is the particular record on? Here in the states I've encountered this problem on certain RCA, Motown, especially on MoWest, Atlantic/Atco, and Chess/Cadet.

    Also, if a record looks clean but plays badly, it could be the case of a record that was taken care of in regards to handling and storage, but was played with a shitty needle.

    It's a private press record. It is definatly no a pressing defect and probably not as worse as you can get the impression from my previous post.
    Maybe I'm a bit to careful... It's more like the sound of a grooveless part at the end of a record.
    Because there are so much quiet parts on the record it is noticeable.
    Best thing would be to post a soundclip and you judge.

    Did not sound too bad starting off, but it sounds like there were some pressing bubbles that caused a skip.

    Some would probably grade it strong VG+/Ex. To be on the safe side I would personally grade it a strong VG+, but I would clean it first to see if it is indeed some dust stuck in the grooves or if it is a pressing bubble.

    I think I will post soundclips of the record and describe it visualy, then it's up to the buyer to decide.

    When I started collecting most mail order records were sold through ads in the pages of Goldmine or through catalogs.
    Economics dictated that the listing for each record be as brief as possible because you need to squeeze as many onto a page as you could.
    Thus 2 character grades and abbreviations like WLP, TOC, RW...

    Today, in an on line ad, your space is almost limitless.
    So just describe the record fairly then do the looks... but plays...
