Ground Lift Media and the Minnesota-based design collective Burlesque of North America have joined forces to present the 2012 installment of DRE DAY: A Celebration of the Life and Music of Dr. Dre. February is quickly approaching, and this will be Chicago???s fourth year celebrating Andre Young and his creative contributions to the world of Hip-Hop.

It???s time to strap on your Compton hats and locs and celebrate the music and legacy of one of the greatest Hip-Hop artists of all time, the icon responsible for introducing the world to acts as diverse as N.W.A., Snoop Dogg, The D.O.C., Eminem, J.J. Fad, 50 Cent, Arabian Prince, and so many more. Bring your friends and celebrate the important birth date and memorable works of Dr. Dre!

Dre Day 2011 exceeded everyone???s expectations, and in 2012 we???re continuing to expand with bigger headliners, increased production values, more Dre activities / swag! Recent Red Bull Thre3style US Champion and founding member of Dre Day Chicago, Big Once takes the stage this year performing an exclusive Dr. Dre turntable routine. Psalm One (Rhymesayers) also performs, with local up-and-comer ADaD acting as the Master of Ceremonies. Also featuring DJs Intel, Maker, Trew, Pickel, & Kool Hersh, Live video installation by Killchnnl.

In continuing with the tradition set by last year???s Dre Day celebration, swag bags and additional Dre Day merch will be available (sticker packs, screen-printed 40 oz. bags, etc???) as well as a ???Chronic???-themed photobooth, $20 Sack Pyramid game, and a Death Row costume contest.

EXCLUSIVE! Official Dre Day Chicago ???12 compilation Deep Covers 2 will be available for free download at groundliftmedia.bandcamp.com??? Contains remixes, edits, & mashups of classic Dre and rare b-sides / album cuts by The Opus, Maker, Big Once, Intel, Pickel, Kool Hersh, Raj Mahal, and Trew.

Big Once Bio:

Disc Jockey, remix expert, and 2011 Red Bull Thre3style U.S. Champion, Big Once has been mixing and cutting wax for over thirteen years. He got his start as a teenager; spinning house parties, putting out mixtapes, and working with several local bands and emcees. Big Once broke into the Chicago hip-hop scene while still in college and since he has steadily been building his rep as one of the most well-respected and in-demand DJs in Chicago and across the country.

While most of his peers have spent years perfecting their look and brand, Big Once has spent that time in the lab. With a studio full of records and massive digital library, Big Once???s fast-paced, dynamic sets touch on every genre imaginable; all mixed with the precision, dexterity, and programming of a U.S. Champion. In a scene where anyone with a laptop and some software can claim to be a DJ, it is Once???s world-beating turntablist skills, unique live remixes, and energetic stage show that set him apart from others. These qualities have afforded Once to perform alongside everyone from the Z-Trip to Roy Ayers, headline clubs from Chicago to Los Angeles, direct the Vocalo 89.5 FM DJ collective, record with legends like Pete Rock, and teach at the University of Chicago.

Psalm One Bio:

Hailing from the Midwest region???s rising hotbed of talent, Psalm One has been named one of the next to blow up by the: Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun Times, The Onion and URB Magazine???s (then) Next 100. She???s a Chicago Southside native who???s been developing her craft for over a decade. But, Psalm One isn???t trying to be your favorite female rapper. She???s just trying to be your favorite. And she???s bringing more than candy to the table. She???s artistically witty, sonically soulful and lyrically unstoppable.

ADaD Bio:

Etching out the blueprint for the future of emceeing, ADaD is the next breakout artist to enter into the rap game. Championed by the likes of Exile and Madlib, he is the nexus between hip-hop???s Golden Era and the new movements derived from today???s hip-hop. Repping Chicago???s south side, ADaD is also member of Eulorythmics, but is quickly changing the game as a solo artist coming into his own. Dubbed the next hip-hop hopeful, he thematically brings fans back to self by preaching an acceptance of who you are. Executing wordplay that mainstream hip-hop compensates for overproduction and posturing, ADaD shares stages with some of the largest names in hip-hop with party-style performances never having to compromise his art or message.
