When talking about Hip-Hop or any of the countless genres it has influenced, it???s all about the beats. Even after a producer loops ???Amen Brother??? for the millionth time, it will always be about the beats. They???re the foundation of Hip-Hop, and the defining characteristic of any artist or genre claiming Hip-Hop as inspiration. And at FACE MELT, they???re the only thing that matters.

As if he???s already plotting to bring an MPC to his cousin???s quincea??era, Maker explains the underlying motivations of FACE MELT as ???a gathering of different styles, cultures, and scenes that are all related??? It???s like a family reunion but with hard ass drums.??? Simple enough concept but reading between the lines, you may want to consider ear plugs!

MEAT NUMBER 5 BIO:

Main Entry: meat number 5
Pronunciation: ???mEt ???n&m ???fIv/ noun, 2007, 2011.
Function: noun
1 n: a genetically engineered meat organism that perpetually feeds and grows off of itself by ingesting it???s own excrement. Perpetually growing bigger and bigger and eventually dispensing edible, nutritious meat for all times.

2 n: as in yellow number 5. but meat.

3 n: a sonic collaboration between Beatmaker/Drummer Ricky Ropesack & DJ/Co-Producer Big Once. They released their self-titled debut album in September of 2007. The Oblivion EP followed in 2009, and 2011 brings the release of their overdue second full length album Low Flying Planes. Ropesack and Big Once are former members of the deceased hip-hop band, The Cankles (2004-2006) and Big Once is the 2011 Red Bull Thre3style US Champion.

4 ???Meat Number 5 are a mysterious and cagey duo nearly as mysterious as the music they create. Their approach to their tight-as-a-military-school-bed-sheet stage show is all business, as they let the jams speak for themselves.??? ??? Mike Turner / KEXP

5 ???Drummer Ricky Ropesack & DJ Big Once: Their sound is a nod to DJ Shadow???s classic album Endtroducing, and it???s nice to see that style embraced in a live setting. Their new EP The Oblivion is a step forward for the duo, and the remix contributions of Maker, Earmint and Maddjazz make for an extremely heady listen.??? ??? Jeff Min/ centerstagechicago.com
