Regardless of whether it's a propper album or not, I haven't felt anything more than this. Unless some serious lava drops in the next 1.5 months I'm going with Mr Ocean.

I've been too immersed in my studies this year to catch up on all the new stuff that has been released, but I've been listening to this on repeat since it came out, so it gets my vote:

Greg Foat Group "Dark Is The Sun". Frank Ocean is a close runner-up.

    WTF??! When did this drop??

Talk about prolific though, 2 Pilot Talk albums last year and now this!

    TOP 5 for sure!

This should count as a 2011 release and I haven't been able to stop playing it since it came out...

If HOB is going up, can we please just do mixtapes/street albums in this thread, too?

The only new release I've bought this year so far, and it was totally worth the price.

I suspect I'll never ever hear the album itself but I can't help feel that this is one of the greatest covers to grace the rap scene in years. So much emoting.

Plus one for Frank Ocean and Danny Brown. Also probably put Zomby up there. To be honest I can't even remember what came out two months ago so will have to go back and see what was actually released this year.

  • I've been feeling these:

    And if mixtapes are in:

    Albums:
I don't really buy many albums, but I guess the Gil Scott Heron/Jamie XX collab and Dedication by Zomby make the shortlist.

    Singles:
About Group - You're No Good (Theo Parrish remix) You're so damn good Mr Parrish
Theo Parrish - Ugly Edits 11 just funky
Daphni (Caribou) - various edits, and Ahora for the Margot remix
Disrupt/Tapes - Events Occur In Real Time/Atomica Rydim 7" is fusking awesome, mainly for the Tapes track
Moodymann - Private Collection 2 clear vinyl six tracker, un-named tracks unmistakably KDJ
Brokenchord - Girl Of 13 Summers 7" of low-end vibrant noodly bliss
Scuba/Synkro/System - Mosaic Volume 1 sampler forward-thinking stuff that sits between garage, DnB, dubstep, and electronica

  • Not a definitive list, but a few that spring to mind...

    Fleet Foxes "Helplessness Blues"
    Zomby "Dedication"
    Little Dragon "Ritual Union"
    Peaking Lights "936"
Toro Y Moi "Underneath The Pine"

Still need to pick up the new Bjork album, and the Gatto Fritto album on International Feel.

Did you pick up the Caribou remix Virgo Four "It's A Crime"...? Great tune.

No, I will listen to the whole thing on yootoob or something, but it wasn't grabbing me as much as his other stuff.

Ha -- I'm glad I'm not the only one. All that gold (no throne?) gives me the image of some king and what king's feast would be complete without some mutton.

This one might be one of my most listened to albums of the year:
