R.I.P.

Jimmy Savile

The first DJ to use two turntables? The first DJ to spin records to a paying public? Mmmm, the guy did a lot of charity work, spent years on the tv, and was a complete nutter. Seemed like a top bloke.

    R.I.P. Sir Jim.

Dude had teh balls. Apparently, this is how "Jim'll Fix It" got the green light:

Jimmy stops Lew Grade in the corridor.
Jimmy: "Lew, I want to make a show where kids send in wishes and I make it happen."
Grade: "Sounds good. What are you calling it?"
    Jimmy: "Jim'll Fix It."
Grade: "I like it. Let's do it. Jimmy'll Fix It!"
    Jimmy: "No, Jim'll Fix It."
    Grade: "Even better!".

    Done.

RIP to the man who fixed it for my generation. Did a lot of work for charity, didn't like to talk about it. Kind of sad that when I think of him now my first thoughts are of the Theroux documentary, particularly these two clips:

Though notice that Theroux himself wrote a little piece about Sir Jimmy for the Mirror which underlines that Saville never took this "warts and all" presentation as anything less than fair.
