Now, we all know Britain is 99.99% white, but were there really NO Black people into the Northern Soul scene? 'Cause that poster is The Wackness.
[sweeping generalisation]The majority of the black community (who don't exist) in the Uk are descendants of people from the Caribbean Islands, and generally are more interested in the music from there.[/sweeping generalisation]
PreviousThreads offered a mixed response. Personally I think it looks horrendous.
Chill out. I did a search for that thread from a year ago, but oddly enough nobody even thought to mention the name of the movie in that thread.
I just caught the flick now that it's been available to download, and I think any movie trying to capture a "music movement" is shit. I thought the lead girl was cute.

Ha ha, calmer than you are. I was merely directing you to previous feedback on this film, no need to get your spidey underoos in a twist. Film looks bad anyway.
I wanted to like this but this film is bad. Very bad. Wait for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elaine_Constantine to finish her NS film and watch that. 'Soulboy' is no reflection at all on the NS scene in the UK now or at any point in time.
I really wouldn't spend another second debating or questioning whether someone of any race or culture is or isn't in it, it's just irrelevant, and it's an hour of your life you'll never get back.
yes, this doco, although short is very good. Geno Washington is funny.
you really need to approach Soulboy as a fictional movie. if you think you're going to see an historical fact based doco on the Wigan Casino scene then you are really setting yourself up for disappointment. same vein as what Cadillac Records does to Chess.

It's just not a very good movie. Poorly written/plotted/directed and in some cases acted.

Exactly.
The Way of the Crowd (this is only a snippet)

I suspect this SoulBoy flick is equally unsalvageable, even with some great music playing in the background.
