"For me, it all jumped off in a major way with "Throw the Dick" by 2 Live Crew, I remember buying all that 12" the same day I bought "South Bronx" by B.D.P. and I actually was feeling 2 Live more."

  • As a non-American back in the 80s we just thought anything with beats, rapping & scratching was hip hop. We had no idea of regionality, until we learnt through label locations. Then it was compartmentalised. I bought like 'Throw the D' the same time I bought 'Fresh is the Word' by Mantronix. It was just hip hop, so i grew up loving it all. Hell i've got more Dr Dre productions from the 80s than afterwards. I just dig rhythm scratching as well. Shit was awesome.

    A couple classics to start...

    Gigolo Tony- Shake your Pants
Afro-Rican- Give it all you got
    MC Shy D- Shake it

My first taste of Miami Bass was on my first tour...

Yo, Gigolo Tony & Dynamix II = fine, but Shake It is a fucking terrible song, IMO[/b] and always will be. Ranks up there with Boom Boom Shake Shake the Room. Uh-Oh, mashup alert.

Cosign on the "twas all just hip hop to us (in Europe)" post. But that also means we got it first time round.
