From Craigslist DC:Sell me your soul/jazz/punk/rock-n-roll records!Reply to: anon-91076008@craigslist.orgDate: 2005-08-14, 10:26PM EDTI pay good money for 1950s rock-n-roll and jazz, 1960s soul and psychedelic rock and 1970s funk and punk albums and 45s. I'm particularly interested in 1960s soul 45s. I buy for a large record shop in downtown London, England and am therefore willing to buy entire collections if you have what I'm looking for. Records must be in very good condition (Brits are a fussy bunch!). Please contact me soon, I go back in mid-September!

We get a few Brits every week as DC is pretty international. No obvious dealers lately though. I'm thinking of posting a counter ad that reads "Sell Local" or "Keep the reocords in DC" or something like that.

Could be fake.... Seems like a business oriented ad though.

True! I've done a few "I pay cash for LP's" postings on Craigslist and haven't gotten a raer yet. Maybe this guy will have better luck but I doubt it.

Where's that then? must be Australian.

    Too funny!

HA HA HA! I PAY TO POST ON CRAIGSLIST?

No records on craigslist. at all. ever. ever ever ever.

  • lets face it.

international dealers want a very small selection of titles.

when i look at a record collection i can use anything from bad female vocals to mint classic rock to classical to bad 80's soul to lame private issue to 45's to 78's to whatever.

i went to a womans house last week and bought a couple of hundred records and i was the second one there. i found items that i value at $50 just sitting there that the first " dealer " just left there at $1 each. yea sure the first guy got a 3 sounds blue note or some shit but i got mundell lowe ten inches and rare julie london imports in mint condition.

in london you can sell a copy of " pleasure dust yourself off " pretty easy, but as for the rest of the shit that's out there good luck.

it kind of surprises me that nigel would want to grip the ford escort rental all over DC for a week straight when he could just go to a few dealers, buy a 1000 useful records and bail back to the UK.

shit, i dont even want to make housecalls anymore unless it is a thousand peice collection. i would just a soon go to another dealers house and buy 500 or 1000 records at once and be done with it. even if it is going to cost me $10 a record instead of $1 a record. at least i am getting records i can use and getting it all done in a day.

mr. UK craigslist DC digger must be having some serious fantasies about meeting Bobby Thurston's former business manager with sealed copies of The Sweetest Peice of the Pie or he must be one cheap bastard ( most likely the later ).

    cheap international dealers are hysterical.

i remember this one aussie guy came to my house in 1996 and ragged me out for asking $25 for herbie hancock fat albert rotunda. " its just a warner brothers title MAN ". yea dude, whatever. he proceeded to buy a king kong soundtrack for $2 and bail.

nigel is going have a fantasy about raers as he is driving to look at a ringburned car wash soundtrack.

you are going to have a fantasy that nigel is going home with boatloads of roy merriwether nubian lady and hilton felton man of all reasons.

neither one is going to happen.

if you want sport a fake british accent and try the same shit he is doing.

its not really going to get you anywhere.

the person with deep knowledge, money in the pocket and the ill rep gets the best records. its got little to do with nationality or wording in an advert.

ok i think my rant is over now.

    thanks for listening.

This guy doesn't bother me at all. I just found it entertaining. He's welcome to come to the store and buy here. I've got two housecalls tomorrow and the records keep walking into the shop so

  • oh the rant felt good.

    but mr. DC...

    what about...

Bobby Thurston, Sweetest Peice of the Pie, Mainline Records, 1980.

    rare?

I've found that record three times. Got a VG one sitting here right now. Sold a sealed two years ago for around $230. An OK record if you ask me but I'd rather have more copies of the Malone and Barnes and Spontaneous Simplicity LP.

  • I'm not too worried. I've tried this approach many times before and with the clientel that reply and the records they posess normally, I bet he gives up and goes back to England before he pulls enough to damage.

I heard this once and didn't think it was that big a deal

Felt the same way about SPACE JUNGLE LUV which a lot of people here regard highly

Don't get me wrong, I like the stuff, but I'm not going to listen to it enough to bother... there are many dollarbin staples that would get more love...

Its funny to me that so many of the $$$ records in this genre are just mediocre to good... I expect them to sound like GOLD
