I know, I know... Switch to gmail but I still happen to have no less than two hotmail accounts. Since last night I haven't been able to send mails. I can log in but as soon as I press reply the rainbow "wheel of death" appears on the screen and the browser closes (both safari and firefox). All other programs works fine and I can google search and use my gmail. I have deleted cookies, reinstalled silverlight, restarted the computer and hotmail still makes firefox and safari crash... WTF!

Can anybody please help me! (i have searched the net for hours without finding anything that helped).

Thanks!

Hotmail email accounts crash to fury of members
BY: Abigail Phillips | Sun Jan 2, 2011

A lot of the Microsoft email account users have posted complaints on online forums about the failure of the email service.

Users have expressed concerns that important personal may have been lost, while other hotmail account holders have stated that the majority of their emails in their inbox had been automatically sent to their deleted mail folders.

It is unclear from the posts how widespread the problem is, however the free web-based email service in the world???s most used with about 360 million users, according to comScore.

Microsoft Windows Live support technicians have said that they are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the account issues.

"At this point it appears to be a limited issue, and Microsoft is working with individual users who are impacted. We apologise for any inconvenience to our customers,"
Microsoft spokeswoman Catherine Brooker said. She declined to disclose what caused the glitch.

A few things could be happening here. You could be blocked.

    if so,

Ask someone here to fix it for you, http://windowslivehelp.com/forums.aspx?forumid=b782602b-8e7c-40d8-a66b-b44824497a17

Or Hotmail is reverting to classic mode, because it's incompatible with your browser.

    If so,

make sure the time and date are set correctly on your computer

    mask your browser with this:

*Personally, I'd open up a GMAIL account and use IMAP or pop3 to import my old hotmail emails. Try Opera or Chrome to access hotmail temporarily at least long enough to turn on IMAP. Then import your hotmail messages with IMAP.

  • Check if you have the silverlight plugin for Safari from Microsoft. My Safari was crashing on composing new hotmail email on safari, updating silverlight fixed the problem. Check this link: http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
