While this is obviously an open invitation for posters to come in and state that these guys are The End Of Rap I was wondering how many other poasters have been eating up these guys output recently? I got introduced to them through the Tyler - BASTARD album and went from there to EARL and have just been grabbing everything I can since.

I still think those two are still their most jaw dropping combinations of lyrics and beats (and videos) but I haven't heard one release yet that didn't have at least some solid stuff on it.

Yeah I know they've had the Internet Going Nuts for a fair few months now just can't remember them ever being discussed on SoulStrut and, since it's a very slow Thursday at work, I was interested to see the collective's superior analysis of them.

  • There was a small flurry of activity back when the strut at large discovered it.

The story went, "these kids vs. Flaka/LilB/Soulja Boy/etc"

typical soulstrut reductionism but you know....

but yeah their shit is cool.

Ah thanks Jonny, missed that one at the time though the response sounds as predicted. Blame it on the time difference.

Since I can't actually delete this thread I'll use the space to offer a sneak preview of the new theme Raj is introducing to the forums though be warned he hasn't set the disable music option yet.

NZ please feel free to kill the thread.

  • Tyler unironically endorsed Flocka and B as some of the only rap he's feeling in an interview somewhere. I think I found it through Noz' www.tumblinerb.com

Maybe we can yet make a 5-pager rager under the Wire-related thesis that "all the pieces matter".

Yeah I think I saw that, Noz has been doing a great job of keeping my lazy ass up on what's coming out. Tyler also threw in bonus points of appreciation of Ariel Pink as well. I guess from my limited understanding it makes sense as B and Ariel both come from a DIY aesthetic similar to Odd Future and Flocka's music at his best, while obviously having bigger funding, shares the kind of sonic sound Tyler in particular is specialising in.

I have a horrible feeling the above para reads Euroman.

I'm personally happy for Flocka to make more music if he's inspiring young rappers like OF. I'm hoping that they can build on this early momentum and be around for sometime yet. as, as a group, they have a lot of styles covered.

  • i dig it. i think they have a lot of potential lyrically and musically. right now they're young and its reflected in their work but if they keep at it i think they'll start killin it. and if they can create a mythology akin to wu-tang, i feel like they'll be crushing shit in the coming future.

that said, i definitely ride. i only found out about 'em from the original discussion piece, forget where it was but maybe in a rap you're not feeling or a rap you are feeling and then branched into its own thread?

Cheers NZ, I can only think the thread title caused me to skip it. Latte Pass indeed. Also agree about the promise of their collective, I don't think there's ever going to be something like the Wu again but it was actually what sprang to mind when I went through all their catalogue due to the contrast between stuff like MellowHype and Earl. Still, very early days.

Love the fact that they're putting it all out there for free at the moment as well as I'd happily pay for it.

    Speaking of paying for it...

I'm not even allowing myself to think they might get turned back at Heathrow. This is probably the first rap show in about 15 years that I'm genuinely excited about. The Drop is a tiny fucking sweatbox of a venue, and if this gets as packed as I suspect it will, it should be quite a night.

    Tickets available here.

Oh shit oh shit oh shit! Right that gives me two days to clear absolutely everything out of my schedule for this weekend.

Ha, one of the most awesomely inaccurate knee jerk statements I've seen on the Strut for a long time. Good work.

My opinion and I hold to it. That said, these guys are very much on the radar of one of the biggest UK live promoters so, incredibly, the world does not spin on the axis I set. Lighten up.

Fear not, I'm as light as they come and not the type to take dismissal of music I like as a personal insult. However I still think that the categorisation of a collective that consists of a fair few different artists and producers all doing different things as low rent versions of Necro is a misinformed opinion and could only assume you'd made it on the basis of the one song you quoted (where I can see where you're coming from even if I disagree).

    However, potato/potato etc.

Yep fair enough, if you're at all interested I can only recommend going and checking out some more of their stuff which is all free to download from links at the top of their website.

yep - already got my ticket for the NY show. stoked -- although I heard it's a complete train wreck and there's no Earl, I'm still psyched.
