I was listening to Masta Ace - Go Where I Send Thee. There's are part where they drop Inner City Blues/Gaye for a couple of bars, then switch back to the original beat.

It made me think of UMC's - Swing It To The Area where there are "two songs" in one.

Who did this "first"?

I always thought the UMCs kinda solidified the 'technique'.
