When and why did kazoos get big in Disco?

I was just listening to Skyy's Skyyport LP and there's a song just focused around kazoos, which reminded me of Freedom's Get Up And Dance which also has kazoos. Were there just these two songs that used it, and more importantly WHY???

"Hi Tension" (band of same name) IIRC has a Kazoo instead of a horn part.

Or it's a horn that's been played and/or recorded to sound like a kazoo.

Kazumi Watanabe ironically never used one AFAIK.
