ebay iphone bidding...slight delay?

was just trying to win a record...got an outbid notice with about 40 secs left to go...I hit "increase bid" and it said I was still outbid, however the winning bid didnt increase, I did it again with 8 secs left, said I was still outbid yet the winning bid didnt increase...did it again and it said the auction had ended. My bids were always "outbid" yet the winning bid never went up although my increased bids were much higher than what it went for...WTF?
