Please explain "Music to Eat By"

I have been looking for this record forever because of its reputation. So happy that I found a it few weeks ago, but after several listens, I think it kinda sucks. I'm a huge Beefheart and Mother's of Invention fan and was always told this was a great southern fried version of those groups. Can someone who loves this record convince me to giver few more listens? What are your favorite tracks?
